This seems like a great idea, but I doubt the price will stay in this range, Ford hit it out of the park with the Maverick launch, but then we know how that went, Maverick is still decent price range but not what consumers really want/need. Its the same as the 21 Bronco Base Sasquatch 29k price point.
It pains me that a stripped down base Bronco is $40k.

It’s like you didn’t even read what problem they were trying to solve.

“No range” you claim….or, had you read, it has 3x the average person’s daily mileage, providing ample range for around town activities given most folks will charge nightly. If you think you’re realistically and comfortably pouring yourself into that to drive from wherever you are to Key West, yeah it’s not designed for that.

Small? The website has a size comparison - it’s slightly shorter than a maverick (which is 4 dr) and a hair bigger than an ‘85 SR5 and longer than a 2dr jeep with the driver sitting further forward. Bigger in every dimension than a Kia soul. So size-wise, it seems to hit a home run on filling a gap left by every other manufacturer, as the maverick is the size of the old Ranger, the new Ranger is the size of an old F150, and a new F150 is enormous.

some people want a small, utilitarian maintenance free vehicle for convenience. Perfect size for taking trash out, picking up a new recliner or some stuff from the garden section or Home Depot. Fits in any parking spot and parking garage. Do I need to remember to change the oil or transmission fluids? No - I want something I don’t have to think about. It simply needs to be out of the way, and always work. Do I need it to look fancy or have fancy features? No that’s what the fun, larger and way more expensive vehicles are for.
I can rent any number of trucks to do my recliner moving, Home Depot delivering, trash taking outing for way less than $20k+
that is the reason i traded my F250 in on my bronco. I no longer needed to pull a 12,000 lb Rv.
if I need to tow my John deer tractor in for service, the local JD dealer charges $40 for pickup/delivery.
why do I need to spend $20k on a temp tow vehicle.

Because you can have both. I’m not getting rid of the bronco for a garbage hauler. Lol.

Small. No range. No power. Looks like trash. Wouldn’t be surprised if the parts come from China and only assembled here. They say “designed and engineered” in the USA, but we all know the nuances of that.

overrall, it looks like a dud. But at least it appears to be heavily inspired by the bronco sport, so there’s that.

if I’m going to get an electric vehicle, it’s going to be one that’s established and a worthwhile drive. Not a glorified golf cart. But I can see this being beneficial as exactly that - a golf cart.

Yep and this has to change. Vehicles are far too expensive for what you get now. As the economy readjusts and all gov spending is cut back there's going to be a lot less disposable income out there. When you look at cars even from the mid 2000's it's insane how much vehicles have gone up in the last 10 years.

LOL. Idont think there is a target market either. It would make for a nice toy/farm cart replacement. Or maybe a replacement for my neices barbie corvette.

truth. And Ford is unfortunately one of the most egregious offenders. something needs to happen where value returns. Currently we pay through the mose to get a mid vehicle or even a low grade one. Wasn’t like that even 5 years ago. Hopefully some of the market adjustment tactics being implemented recently have the desired effect before too long.

Adjusted for inflation and features, new cars are generally significantly cheaper than past decades.

The problem I have is feature creep. I would actually pay MORE to do LESS but BETTER. I want my car do one thing, get be from point A to point B. Do this safely, cheaply, and with right amount of smiles, and Slate will be successful.

Maybe they should do a "lock in your price" with a larger deposit, even if they lose (Bezos) some money, they would get some really happy customers and ambassadors to a new brand.
