Magnaflow exhaust in hand

I am asking if the valve has a reason outside of changing exhaust note. is ford using it as a waste gate?

A waste gate is used to bypass the turbo to reduce boost. The Raptor valve is after the turbo and before the muffler.

IMHO I think it's a sales enhancing feature more than a performance enhancing feature. When I went from a restrictive stock muffler in my WRX to a Stromung straight through my Subaru seemed smoother. It went from zero boost at 70 mph cruise to several inches of vacuum. So it helped. Stormung advertised a 7 HP gain. With a stock engine of 227 HP that calculates to be a 3% increase.

It seems the Raptor valve does the same thing for the Raptor but is driver controlled. Someone needs to hook up a boost gauge to their Raptor and see how the different modes affect boost/vacuum at freeway cruise.

It's also a good way to tell if exhaust enhancements help or hurt for any engine.

Thanks,everything I find suggests it is only for sound "tuning" making me want to remove mine on my stock exhaust. I just don’t care for drone. It is a cool raptor feature that it's driver controlled.

I completely agree about drone. That's one reason I'm not replacing the muffler on my Badlands.

I did a lot of research before selecting the Stromung for my Subaru. I'm extremely happy with the sound. A nice rumble in town or when on the throttle and practically silent on the road. It also helps that the Subaru has an opposed engine. With the Stromung tuning it sounds almost like a V8 instead of a 4.

I think a Raptor or any Bronco with the 2.7L engine could sound nice with the right muffler. With the 60 degree Vee I could imagine one sounding like a classic Jaguar.

So do 2.7 ford's, the valve is spring controlled. Do you have any idea if it's for function or is it just a sound thing. Everything I found on it contradicts something else I found.

I just swapped a 2.7 WildTrak exhaust on my wife’s Bronco to a Corsa cat-back system, there are no valves. My Braptor however, has the driver controlled valves.

There is a valve on the stock, it's internal and spring controlled.

Where is this valve? From the Flex pipe back, there is no valve. I will say, I like the sound of her Corsa exhaust better than my Raptor’s. I even did a side by side video of them, since they’re parked next to each other. Obviously, the Raptors exhaust is more sophisticated.

This muffler here? What actually activates the valve? Pressure? Regardless, the stock system is no where near as good as the Corsa one, but I am not going to spend any energy cutting this muffler open, just to find out. I spent an hour and half installing it, that’s all I am willing to do, this conversation is over.

Can you post pictures of the valves you got? I’m curious to see what the 23+ values look like. Are these the 23+ ones by chance?

The spring ones are 23+. The 22 ones are not spring .
