If you are a princess, I must be the king. I sleep only in five-star hotels. Long, long time ago in the land (several lands actually) far, far away I promised myself never to go camping again.
You know Daniel I really do not know how to read you. You live in Salmon F-ing Idaho.... Outdoorsman's paradise. 99.999% of the population of Salmon loves the outdoors because there ain't a whole lot more there. That is why they choose to live there. It is God's country. It is BEAUTIFUL!!!!! and yet you come across as if you have a distain for it. Name me one 5 star hotel within 500 miles of Salmon Idaho. I have no problem with you not wanting to take your Bronco off road but you seem to be making a point here and it seems so???? odd???? coming from someone who chooses to live in Salmon.

Sounds like I have some 'splainin' to do.

This IS outdoorsman paradise. I owned several companies after I retired from the military. Sold it all in 2016 and purchased 1100 acre horse ranch over here. I LOVE outdoors! I have my own shooting range (my main hobby is shooting), and I love riding (motorcycles, and horses) which I do a lot off (more horseback than bikes). Whenever I have a reliable ranch hands I travel a LOT.

Wife is a traveling physician (works all over the country), but sometimes I can convince her to take 4-5 months off (she doesn't have to work but cherishes her "career" being much younger than me). We love to spend a week or two in Santa Barbara, Hamptons, or Scottsdale. However,....good (reliable) ranch hands are hard to find around here. I just hired two of them (this morning), and the wife's contract in Montana is up in two days.....so.....as soon as I am certain that my herds will be taken care off, we'll be gone for couple of weeks.

I don't have any "disdain" for the people that use their Broncos as they are meant to be, or any "disdain" for the people of Lemhi County, but I don't "own" a Bronco! I purchased it for my wife. I still stand by the statement I made in one of my previous posts (the one that upset a dude from MT). In nine years I've been here, I met two kinds of people......the "well off" people that don't have to work, and younger people that want to do drugs more than work. I had my share of people coming to my door looking for work, only to find them a few days later smoking pot on my property, and my thoroughs empty, and my animals not fed on time.

We have 11 road going motorized vehicles (which includes two bikes, and two quads). There are also several tractors, skid steer, a backhoe, and a Cessna 210 Centurion. Bronco is driven on dirt every time it leaves the garage (well, gravel actually) for 3/4 mile to the nearest asphalt. Up in the mountains I drive a Jeep Cherokee (pinstripes, wrinkled fender from the encounter with an Elk bull, and all). This is also a vehicle that I take my GSDs to town with, or to play on the mountain. No need to drive a pristine Bronco, now is it?

I lived in AZ for about a decade, and I absolutely trashed my old Bronco in the desert. But I am over that. I saw that the Bronc can do it, that I can do it, and the Bronco was given to one of my employees when I left AZ who restored it and still drives it.

I also like to tease people on this board (as well as several firearms related forums) when I have time. I enjoy that more than watching a movie or watching the news that upset me. I don't like to be upset.

Crap,.....I just went on the tangent, and forgot to tell you why I hate camping. See,.......I spent far more time to care to remember in tents. In Bosnia (rain and mud was UNREAL), in Kosovo (snow that you have to dig yourself out of the tent), and not to forget Iraq and Afghanistan where only the people that experienced it will understand..........SAND! But not Arizona or California sand.......fine light brown (beige) "talcum powder" that gets into EVERYTHING (your gear, your underwear....everywhere!). One night (sleeping on the top of the muddy hill in Bosnia soaking wet with 70mph wind howling) I promised myself NEVER to go camping again if I make it out of there alive. I keep my promises.

I think I see a bit more now... I was wondering. Most of the places in Idaho seem to have become the haves and the have nots... No Middle any more except a few in the more metropolitan areas. The Have nots everywhere seem to have no sense of ability to move upward and have no drive. (there are a few exceptions but too few). I have seen what you are seeing. It is sad.

I figured you might not have a paved driveway and figured it might be a bit long.... AND yes it seems you do get out and enjoy the outdoors. Horses? Bikes? ATVs? All makes sense where you live. My son in law has told me lots of stories about Iraq and Afghanistan .... I think he has completed 7 different tours now. But then he is part of the Chair Force, as was my wife. I was raised a marine corp brat but no one would take me with one eye...

Thank you for explaining...AND thank you for your service.

No,....thank you.

I've never been to a "metropolitan Idaho" (I shop in Missoula), but I think all of rural America is just like you described. "Middle class" is all but gone. Drugs are everywhere, reliable services are hard to find, and everyone is looking for a quick buck. I threw my "smart phone" (after I shot it) away over two years ago, I don't do any "Fbooks", "Igrams", "linkins".....no "social media", no news (if I can help it), and just a few (local) friends (a lot of friends all over the globe).

That's it for today. Now I have to feed over 30 animals and grill some food. New ranch hands are starting on May 1st, and I can't wait. I hope they'll work out. Someone way smarter than me said a long time ago: "Hope is the last thing that dies in a man."

in Venango County PA, you actually need a built rig for the mall parking lot, because it has potholes that could swallow a smart car......
I see your profile pic is at BFR! (y)

As a sailor, I took my bed with me lol. But you're right about the sand -- it was freaky as hell seeing a sandstorm coming in the middle of the Persian Gulf

If I would have a phone (or a camera!) to take pics with, I would do this today. A 5gal bucket with some nice mud in it (a fair amount of horse shit too just for a good measure) and throw it on the Bronc just before I wash/wax it. Maybe that would get me some creed on this board? Hell,.....I have plenty of boulders on my property too,.......I could take one of those pics that show one rear wheel "hanging by the thread"........hmmm. Maybe I should get another phone? Nahh....maybe not.

I’m currently a mall crawler but hope to change that. It’s just still too new.

IMG_2957.jpeg

Well,....nothing wrong with that, but you could start dressing it up to make it look more "macho".
