I don't know how lengthy this is going to get. I am writing on the fly but I do intend to be thorough about my experience and I hope it helps the next person on the fence about making this swap decision.
One thing I think most agree on is that the tail lights were a huge missed opportunity for Ford. They could have adopted a design like this from the factory and it would have been both functional and aesthetically pleasing. I know looks are very subjective; to me, the signature tails are just too protruding. Am I personally going to be in positions where they might contact a limb? probably not. But not everything we mod is full on function like that. Tthe aftermarket always comes through in times like these! And Oracle has designed a pretty nice product for that.
Oracle suggests an install time of 1 hour. I suggest blocking off 2 hours. It's always a good idea to take your time. Plus, in my case, I opted to buy the add-on for these which integrates an amber turn signal inside the same strip where the reverse LED is. Personally, I don't think there should be any other variant! Again, totally subjective. One tidbit on information here, both the tail light assemblies and the reverse/turn signal pieces are marked LH and RH, making it a breeze to look at them and know which side they go into. The swap took me approximately 20 minutes as I read through everything and performed the change. During this time I also removed the resistor on the tail lights because I have signature LED lighting on mine and this is not necessary if you do.
The install is not difficult. There may be moments you think you are going to break one of these little panels you have to remove, but it's just that the clips that hold them on are very secure (go Ford!). I watched videos and read other people's accounts of their install and a good many folks change out the rubber spacers that go on the left side tail light. I have not gone that route and installed as-is with everything that was provided to me. I do think I have some room for adjustment as the gaps aren't quite crisp and even (then again, neither are some of the factory body gaps). So I am content in leaving them they way they are at this time.
When the labor was all said and done the only step left was to make a single tweak in ForScan. Since I have the signature tails, in the BdyCM you must Disable the Rear LED Turn Outage. Cycle ignition and you're done.
The hardest pill to swallow was probably cost. OEM signature tails were already something like a $795.00 up charge. If you want the similar experience from Oracle, it will run you $589.45 (before any tax, shipping or discount codes you might have). Plus the need to have access to ForScan. I am quite pleased with the way they look.
At any rate, here are a bunch of photos. I know my workspace is a mess and my photography may leave something to be desired here. Enjoy!
