This will be my Bronco’s first Christmas (bought on Halloween) and I want to decorate my spare tire to celebrate. I’m thinking about a garland with lights, a bow and some decorations. It’ll be fun to surprise the kids.

Any kits you’d recommend?

What’s the best way to wire this up?

Anything I should watch out for?

Mine is a 2-door Wildtrak if that matters.

TIA!

There's a power outlet near the light in the Passenger rear panel. You could connect something there and run the wire under the window to the spare tire location. That's probably the easiest way, but you would have to remember to unplug it - it stays on for about 20-30 minutes after shutdown.

Be careful - some places have pretty strict laws about lights in a vehicle. I know where we live - someone new does this every year with rainbow lights, and every year they get a ticket because lights can only be white or yellow (unless they are for stopping/taiights)

That said - easiest way would be the 12V power point in the rear cargo area, just close the glass/softtop on the wire.

Thanks and appreciate the callout on the allowable colors. It's white or yellow for me too. I also got a spare tire brake light so I'll have a splash of red too. I can tap on the brakes frequently to simulate flashing :)

Mine turns off immediately.
Go to Michaels. They have pre-lit ones that are the perfect size for the spare, and theyre cheap.

We used to decorate our motorcycles for a holiday parade and we just used battery-operated lights. Easy install & removal.

Why am I not surprised when I read that you lived in California?

Why is no one suggesting using the trailer wiring socket. Turns on and off with the running lights.

There will be some that flash with blinkers, others will come on only with brakes, and the rest will work as normal. EDIT: a handful won’t work at all!! Love it!!

I purchased some regular LED Christmas lights that plug into a standard house outlet. I plan on using the power outlet on the backside of the center console. When I tested it, mine turns on when the vehicle is started and turns off when the vehicle is shut off. Just plan on running a small extension cord to the back of the vehicle.
I’ll just run the wire for the lights between the window and the tailgate.
