Hello, I was interested in a cold air intake but am on the fence to get oiled or a dry filter. What is everyone else's take on this. Has anyone had problems with the oil style. Also what brands is everyone going with. I was considering AFE, K&N or the roush but the roush don't look like anymore then a replacement lid and a new filter. If it make a difference i will have installed AWE or corsa exhaust
I appreciate everyone's help.

The factory CAI is all you really need unless you are going to do a tune etc. If you really want one stay with a dry filter. They are easier to care for. They don't put oil into your air stream in turn into the throttle body etc.

I usually go K&N but not this time, I went with the Injen Evolution with a dry filter and I love it. In my opinion it is the best design from the box all the way to the turbos. Dry filter because a lot of my local off roading areas have a lot of fine dust and dirt (moon dust). The Roush box and filter is bigger than stock and that is it, I expected better, but they are selling the name. K&N calls their design enclosed but the top of the box is mesh and I have covered my stock filter box in water and mud before while having fun so I don't like the mesh top. The injen is snorkel ready if you have or ever want to add one, filter and box are massive and it replaces the piping from the filter to the turbos with a larger diameter, so your air doesn't get choked back down to stock diamtet piping going to the turbos after the filter box. I picked up 2 mpgs, more power and the the sound is very mean and aggressive when the turbos spin up. I would recommend the Injen and would buy it again. The install is a little trickier than most because you are also upgrading the pipes to the turbos but not too bad. I managed with hand tools and a YouTube video and have no issues, just more fun.

MJ12, thank you for the info... I'm definitely gonna look in that brand. Do you have any aftermarket exhaust on your ride along with the intake?

Hey there!

Honestly, it's more of a preference. I don't feel that oiled vs dry that one has an advantage over the other. The oiled is nice as you can clean it after it starts to show it's use.

All brands are great for an intake including the ones you've named already! Just really preference. Happy to help you here at Lethal Performance when you're ready! Feel free to reach out with questions! Thanks!

Has anyone tried the K&N dry CAI?

I like there design that you can remove the filter for maintenance.

I was really interested in the AFE and the injen but it seems you have to disassemble it quite extensively for cleaning and maintenance.

The oiled filter outflows the dry one (barely), but it really is personal preference. I go oiled as I'll clean and reoil the filters myself. The disassembly is not bad with the AFE intakes. I personally enjoy the added sound they added.

Check out the flow chart AFE provides: https://afepower.com/media/catalog/product/file/5/0/50-70078d_fc.jpg

I had the K&N dry CAI put on as an upgrade from day 1, along with my tune, cat-back exhaust etc. It is generally said that putting a CAI on alone doesn’t buy you much, so if that’s all you do make it easy. The K&N setup was fine and a breeze to work with.

But once I added Injen charge pipes for the CVF intercooler, I replaced the K&N with Injen which also has a dry filter. I won’t go into the performance improvements felt because there are a lot of factors, but the drawback is it’s a mini-project to open up the Injen to inspect and clean vs the K&N setup. I’ll accept it as a cost of the better air flow via bigger and more pipes, but it may not be worth it to everyone. Whatever way you go, put a mesh screen over the filter if you are off-roading at all to get ahead of maintenance a little.
