Interesting observations around market size

So here in Westchester County NY it's not exactly an off-road paradise (roads suck but that's a different story). That said we are driving distance from some good hunting, the Catskills, Adirondacks I've heard some beach and off road trails in Long Island too. That said I still wondered after hearing about the 21/22 allocation process for dealers being tied to market size - so I started being more observant to Wranglers, FJs and 4Runners in particular in my area. I was out at Wegmans (yeah us down staters got one of those too now) and in a 30 minute span of grabbing some lunch at the burger bar, I saw 11 wranglers of varying flavors even a badlands and squatched equivalent. I thought that was alot - and honestly I am a bit more encouraged that even the small dealers like Rye/Pleasantville/Scarsdale etc will likely have a fair amount of reservations and eventually real allocation. Doesn't mean they'll be offering anything special...just an observation. Anyone else feel like they are noticing wranglers more?

Former Hartsdale resident. Originally from the Hudson Valley area. An hour North from the Tappen Zee. I know the complications of not too many trails and looking for places to go. Now in Centre County, PA and will need to look for some trails here.
Totally agree though. Maybe I’m more attentive now because of the Bronco craze but I’m noticing more local Jeep dealer commercials.

Actually think my observation of this is the opposite. I was disproving my hypothesis of not being a big market and actually believe it is bigger than previously hypothesized. No real data to support it but seat of the pants feel for sure

SUVs are popular everywhere. Most have never been put into 4wd. Who knows how this market size metric will really play out.

I am not far from Westchester in CT and I see a decent amount of jeeps. Trying to remember if I noticed jeeps when I worked in Peekskill. Probably just notice it more now since I have bronco fever

Sure.... Not textbook perhaps. OP wasn't looking to see more Jeeps to prove there was more Jeeps. But it only makes sense that if you start looking for them you'll see one.

I haven't "seen" a Nissan Sentra in what feels like the last five years. It's not a car a think about or notice. I'm sure next time I'm out though, if I look for one, I'll find one.

Need to keep in mind that number seen in your locale is relative.
X in one town isn’t the same as Y in a different market.

it’s all of our guesses as to how Ford will do this calculation. Straight number 10’s vs 100’s vs 1,000’s OR % relative to local , regional , national market.

grew up in Scarsdale in the 90s, a couple blocks from the Hartsdale border. Now live in Montclair NJ. One thing I can’t believe in my dealership search is just how many more Ford dealers there are in North NJ compared to Westchester. It seems almost 4x. I have no doubt that Westchester dealers have huge reservation numbers. In the NJ side I definitely had to do my research because it seems like the wealth is spread out with all these dealers. I would think Scarsdale Ford has a big #s. Interestingly enough, my first job in HS was at Curry Acura up the street.

i do have a theory that ford sales generally speaking are not great in Westchester. Given the access to NYC i feel like more people lease than buy in Westchester and European leases are way more attractive. Given there is less demand for ford dealers, but a strong demand for Broncos the reservation #s per dealers are big. I personally would like to lease the Bronco since we only put a combined 10k miles a year between our two cars, but I really do want to own it long term and potentially modify

also in my neighborhood I know there’s about 8 Jeep wranglers and I see quite a bit when I drive to stop and shop.

My personal opinion is the Wrangler won't have a V-8. The announcement of the concept was intended to be a distraction from the Bronco launch. I doubt it will ever actually happen.

The last time Jeep offered a V-8 in their removable top vehicle was back in the CJ-7 days, last year was 1981. Since then there have only been V8s offered in the Grand Cherokee and the short-lived Commander.
