After 3 TJs, a YJ, and, most recently, a Sahara 4xe, I have joined the Bronco family. My lease was up and, despite 40+ Jeeps on various dealer lots, no one wanted to make a reasonable deal so I thought, screw em, let's check out some Broncos. After the 4xe, I knew I wanted something off-road capable and fun. I also knew I wanted something far less complex and, hopefully recall prone(5 and counting in 3 years- I earned Hertz Gold status paying for rentals). I decided on a basic Big Bend with the only options being an auto(for wife and daughter who is learning to drive) and a hardtop(sorry, not a fan of how the factory soft top looks- kinda sloppy, IMHO). Reached out to 2 local dealers and one said "make us an offer as it's end of month and the state fair opening weekend- ie not much customer traffic. I think I got a fantastic deal on a 2 year lease with a decent enough residual that I can buy it out if I love it.
Initial thoughts- very different than my JL. It drives much larger to me- both a pro and con. It feels more solid, planted and safe. The steering is MUCH stiffer and I need to rebuild my arm strength! The Jeep felt much easier to whip around tight neighborhood streets and parking lots. The 2.3L feels peppy enough and makes a much better sound than the 4 cylinder pairing on the 4xe. The 4xe was FAST(for a lego on wheels) but the Bronco is quick enough. Other thoughts- I like the top system(easy on/off), larger screen and seats. I wish I had researched a bit more as I wanted a very basic model but miss passive entry vs using fob.
Overall, very pleased after a few days and drives. While I feel a bit like I broke up with a long time girlfriend and back on the dating scene, I'm not ashamed! The only mod I made was upgrading to 33's(I just like a filled out wheel well)- put on Firestone X/Ts as they strike a nice highway/offroad balance. Also, you would never guess this Bronco is $20K cheaper than a Jeep(their pricing is another topic).
Pardon the lengthy post but excited to join the club! See you guys out there.
