Can someone explain the buttons on the dash in a Badlands and what type of situation you would use them? One is the hazard lights and i think one is traction control but i dont understand the other buttons and what you would use them for? like the sway bar disconnect?

You’re correct in that one is hazards and one is traction control. The traction control is actually 2 buttons in one, if you hold it down for 10 seconds it’ll turn off 100% of all traction control features vs. just a single press. This is mostly used Offroad or when you wanna do donuts in a field. The other 3 are front locker, rear locker and sway bar disconnect. Rather than explaining front and rear locking differentials to you perhaps it might be easier to go to youtube and search ā€œhow do front and rear locking differentials work and when would I use themā€. The sway bar disconnect button controls your Badlands’ anti-sway bar.. disconnecting it will give you a slight increase in front wheel articulation Offroad and is intended to keep both front wheels on the ground when an anti-sway bar might be restricting that motion causing one wheel to lift. The more wheels you have on the ground the better traction you get..

There’s also the trail turn assist button for those tight hairpin turns.

Disconnecting the sway bar when you begin your off roading day allows the vehicle to remain more planted to the ground throughout your day. Reducing the number of instances where you may get into tire slippage. Just remember to re-engage once you’re done off-roading for the drive home.

I gather you're a new owner?
Sign up for the Bronco Off-Roadeo as soon as you can. You'll drive their Broncos (mostly Badlands and Wildtraks). These things will be explained to you, and you'll have the chance to try them out over rocks, through mud, up inclines, and so on. I believe they just opened up a new off-roadeo in Tennessee (or maybe Kentucky?), so you don't have to go all the way to New Hampshire or Texas.

Also, spend a lot of time on these forums, and get to know your owner's manual. I suggest you download the manual onto a flashdrive, take it to Staples or someplace, and have it printed up so you can browse through it conveniently. Yeah, that'll cost, but owning a Bronco is a pretty expensive hobby. You'll see!

Unless he has a 7MT. That’s the one toy us manual drivers don’t get to play with.

The BEST answer for you is to get yourself to a Bronco Off-Roadeo. They go over all the situations where you might use any of these switches (and they touch on GOAT modes as well). Besides just going over them, you actually get to USE them. You will walk away with a healthy appreciation for the capabilities of this vehicle. HIGHLY recommended! Well worth the effort.
