This is the best time of year for flying. Cool, calm mornings.

Well, I went and made an emotionally awesome (and financially terrible) decision:

Love it. If I didn't have access to such nice super cubs in my club I would definitely be an owner.
Kinda glad I'm not though. I hope to turns out to be a great choice for you. Looks like a lot of fun.

You made that emotionally awesome decision like a champ! (see what I did there?) What a beautiful airplane- I hear they're amazing to fly as well.

Finally got off my ass and knocked out my CFI checkride. Huge relief to have that done with.

That’s always been one of the hardest checkrides. Nicely done!

Where is this at? I need more grass strips (and reasons to get away during the weekends) in my life.

Come visit me in NWA. There are a lot of grass/gravel strips within an hour flight. I usually do a 1.5-2hr flight and get in 10 landings at 4 different runways on a typical morning.

Almost all the airfields listed have a video of arrival and departure to give you an idea of how much fun they are. My picture above is Trigger Gap.

Well it's not the soft, beautiful turf of Arkansas (I'll make it there someday soon @kodiakisland ), but I did manage to get permission to land at a grass+dirt field on the Llano river in the hill country. Fun experience, with the exception of picking sticker burrs out of absolutely everything and having to clean grasshopper pieces out of the cockpit after doing my runup with the windows open.

Wife took the kids up to Colorado much earlier for the 4th of July than my PTO would bear, so when left to my own to make my way there for the weekend, I used it as the perfect rationalization to duck out of work at 3pm and putter my way up there. Much like the drive, 75% of it was getting out of Texas and into the pretty parts.

Did have a pleasant surprise, I wound up in Plainview, TX, which apparently used to be a major Bellanca service station (all the signs are still up over the abandoned hangars), and the gentleman staffing the FBO was quite excited to see a Citabria roll through, and gave me a copy of the old Bellanca aerobatics manual, said they found a box of them when they sorted through all the old stuff.

Got into NM right at sunset, and got to enjoy a GPS outage courtesy of testing at the White Sands range. Center was lousy with airliners asking for vectors to their next fix with their GPS down too. Made it into Moriarty, NM for the night (FBO couch > sleeping under the plane).

Flying up through the San Luis Valley from there the next morning was phenomenal, like flying through a postcard.

17.1 hours on the Hobbs, round trip. Next plane will have an autopilot, damnit. Little Citabria did good, even managed 15.1 mpg (statue miles, not nm, gotta pump those numbers up).

Beautiful part of the country to fly! I'm pretty sure people have set endurance records in gliders out of Moriarty.

Love the MPG, about the same as I get in my Bronco, but I prefer to measure my Bronco's fuel burn in lbs/hr. Less B6G and more E6B 😂
