Hey all, my family are planning a trip to Moab the last week in May 2024. (The kids get out of school the 22nd) for a week in Moab.
Looking for recommendations on a few things.
1. We are driving out in a 38ft diesel RV flat towing our 4 door badlands with the Sasquatch package. A lot of campgrounds I have researched don’t hold larger RVs. Any campground recommendations or free BLM spots for a bigger RV?
2. My wife and I will attend the Off Roadeo one of the days we are out there, and we want to take our kids out on the trails the following day. Any guide recommendations? or thinking we may just wing it and see if we meet anyone at the off roadeo to trail ride with that week.
3. Any recommendations for things I should strongly consider bringing on the trip?
I have a couple basic tow straps and that’s about it. Small air compressor and tools I carry in our RV.
I will likely buy beefier tie rod ends before we go, but other than that it’s just a bone stock badlands sas.

thanks for reading and any feedback you have. Really hoping this is something my family enjoys to make it an occasional thing.

you can hit dirt near the campground and go into Arches in the back way

The best campground in Moab is Portal RV. The KOA is pretty good. Make the res early as campgrounds fill up fast.

Get the Wells Moab Trails book for help on all the off road trails.

Icon tie rods are the best.

#1. Yes.

#2> Any topo map. Go on an adventure - a road that has not been featured on YouTube a thousand times.

#3. Pick up Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey.

1. Can't help you with this one.

2. I like the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park. It's 100 miles of interesting stuff that makes use of the various Bronco modes, but isn't going to tear it up. Any decent 4x4 can do it in ten hours. That's how long it took me a year ago but I only spent seven hours for the whole thing when I was there a few weeks ago.

3. Take some water. Bring a hat for the Off-Roadeo.

Oh yeah, one more thing - you need a permit to go on the White Rim Trail, but it's free at the visitor center that is very close to the east entrance to the WRT.

On same rd that takes you to off roadeo I’m sure I saw plenty of camping spots with RV’s along the river. Couple months ago we stayed at off grid clamping spot south of Moab. it was called glamping canyonlands. Was cool and comfortable over night and nice to see stars clearly.

I was just out there. There's plenty of Campgrounds on 128. As for tours we went with Outlaw Adventures. The guide was ahead of us in their Bronco and took us on Finns and Things and Hell's Revenge, we did it the day after the Off-Roadeo and it was fantastic, it'll show you just how much more the Bronco can do than what the Off-Roadeo has you do (though it's also well worth doing)

I stayed at the KOA and really enjoyed it - good location and good views, price was reasonable. I didn't want to spend too much since I planned to be out and about all day.

Portal RV is great. Several years ago I stayed at Spanish Trail RV south of town and it was good, but it's been 20 yrs...

You don't need a guide unless you really want one. You can get info at the visitor's center or pick up one of the books mentioned. If you want a guide, I have met up with Dan Mick on the trail and tagged along with him before and it seemed like his clients had a good time.

Get ahold of Tyler at Bronco Off-roadeo in Moab, he works as a trail guide on the side, nice guy, seems really knowledgeable about the local area.
