My totally unfounded speculation is that people ordered a Wildtrak as a high end luxury, awesome offroader to be used as daily driver.
EX: a cooler looking Grand Cherokee Limited.

Most people ordered them without ever seeing one in person or test driving one.

When they finally got it they found out it really lacks in the luxury aspect.
Cheap plastics, rough ride (compared to what the expected) and loud (tire and wind noise).
It’s a totally reasonable take. Nothing lux about my lux OBX. Ford should have called it the heated steering wheel package for truth in advertising but I don’t think it would’ve sold!

Come on now, it has a phone heater too... LOL. And what about that premium sound system?!? ;)

I think the only useful feature in the lux package was the adaptive cruise control.

As to the OP's question, I bet when people realize that they didn't get the best off-road Bronco package, they also reconsider as well... Since the Badlands really should have been the top trim.

I ordered the most optioned out Wiltrak and got it after a year at MSRP. Then came a maxed out Bronco Raptor below. MSRP and that why my Wiltrak is gone

Overzealous internet shoppers that like to order $60k vehicles like you would a pizza.

Several years from now - Big Bend, Wildtrak and OBX will be rampantly available used. My suspicion is Base, Black Diamond and Badlands owners are in it for the long haul.

Ding ding you nailed it man. Don't forget the gas mileage of like 15MPG. Here in Cali gas is well over $6 and approaching $7/gal in some places. Also, seriously $62K for an OBX? Really? That's kind of like a one-way ticket to the poor house isn't it? These Broncos are way over priced and the resale will be crap once the hype goes away. When I test drove a '23 Wildtrak with cloth seats I thought to myself "I'm driving a $64,000 underpowered vehicle with the interior of a geo metro and the gas mileage of a wrangler". There's no way in hell I'd pay these asking prices. BUT that is exactly what people are doing, and that is exactly why Ford has been pumping out so many Wildtraks because they likely have the highest margin. Where I live in SoCal Wildtrak trims are far and away the most common trim of Bronco.

Ford said they will be upgrading the interiors in the '24 Bronco but nobody knows what that entails. Perhaps they will put $2 some fake leather on the door panels. I'll see it when I believe it.
The $62,050 was the retail price for the OBX but it was also the MSRP. Had everything I wanted plus some extras.
IT’s sitting right next to a 2023 Wildtrak with 5000 miles listed for $62,700.
I really don’t want a Wildtrak, Badlands, or SAS. I like the extra painted details of the OBX and like it stock. I don’t need that capability, but geez hard to justify a new OBX at this rate.

My non-SAS Badlands 2.7 is getting 20.7 mpg currently. I avoided Wildtrak because it only comes with 35s. I suspect many Wildtrak owners have heartburn over 17 mpg and $4+/gallon gasoline, and the difficulty of parking their big rig.

The economy is about to drive lots more non practical vehicles into the market place. Broncos, vettes, Harleys, boats, jet skis, etc will be plentiful and cheap.
Im no economist but they’ve been saying that for over a year now haha
Not saying it isn’t starting and our soft landing is gonna turn into turbulent one but I did now find a 2022 OBX, Black, that has all the goodies. Fingers crossed!!!!

My Wildtrak is getting 18.5-19 mpg all day. I think the OPs question is really hard to answer because all of us see different segments of buyers based on where we live. For example in my area the OBX is by far the most popular and on the road the most. I do think you see WT for sale more because of their high price knocking alot of buyers out.

Not sure why people are bitching about the luxuriousness of the interior-its a freaking off road vehicle for crying out loud. I guess too many people are coming from what they expect is supposed to be a luxury vehicle into the Bronco and going WTH.

Pricing is immaterial-your paying for the removable top and the ability to off road. If you want a luxurious ride that pretends its off roader, get a Grand Cherokee or Wagoneer.

I think it is a combination of what everyone posted. We will be seeing more of these on the lots sooner than later. Lets not forget rates went way up this past year making it even more unaffordable.

The question was “why so many used Wildtraks vs other trims”

And the interior was brought up as one of those reasons....

My sense is that if you are purchasing a Bronco for quasi AWD capacity you’d be better served by a vehicle that is purpose built on that drivetrain.

The sales manager at my dealer mentioned that the #1 vehicle people are buying after trading in their Bronco is the F-150, followed by the Explorer.
That makes total sense. Most people seem to purchase a Bronco as a fashion accessory - they live in an urban or suburban environment and want to project an image. In reality, they’d be better served by a family oriented SUV or minivan.
