Has anyone else had this problem? I've read a few articles about Parking Break Limited functions here, but haven't seen anything like what happened to me over the weekend.

I got into my Bronco (2022, base) and started it up, the engine was running, but then I got the Parking Break Limited Function error.

My engine kept running, but all electrical stopped. The Start/Shut off button didn't work, no dash screen, no window function, didn't even register my key fob lock/unlock.

Had to have it towed to the shop - with the engine running. When I got to the dealership, no one in the service department had seen this. They disconnected the Battery, but the engine wouldn't turn off. Eventually, they pulled the fuse for the alternator & got the engine to stop.

Is this just a faulty computer update? Wiring? Sensor? I'm still waiting to hear back from the service center.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Might be good to know which fuse kills the alternator….

Wow, they unhooked the battery while engine was running??? Lucky it didn’t smoke about half of the modules on the truck. If battery is unhooked while running it can’t perform its job as a giant capacitor for the electrical system and voltage can spike to very high levels.

RIGHT?? I was like.. uhmmmm..... and THEN the service guy got out the manual to figure out which fuse to remove... Wouldn't that be your first move? Pretty nervous to get it out of the shop, TBH. I feel like that move probably did additional harm ;/

They could have pulled the fuel pump relay or fuse. Your problem sounds like a network communication problem. Their first step would have been to hook up a scan tool and pull codes.

If everything seems to be working when you get it back, probably no harm done. You lucked out. If it is a network problem it may take a while to diagnose, some are not too bad, others are pretty challenging.

AN UPDATE! And a warning!

DO NOT go to Star Ford In Glendale, CA.

My Bronco has not been touched since it was dropped off a week ago, the service has been giving me one story after the next, but the worst part has been
that they left my Bronco with the hood open in their un-gated parking lot for a week now.

You'll see in the picture that the Bronco is right next to the road, easy for anyone to walk up, pull what they want, and drive off. (It's also been a week of over 100 degree heat in SoCal)

Something told me to drive by and check on Friday - the hood was open, I called & was told that they couldn't diagnose it, but that they looked at it today... Something didn't sit right. Drove past again early this morning - hood open, but service hours so I thought ok, maybe they're looking at it.

Drove by again tonight - service is closed, the dealership was closing and the HOOD WAS OPEN.

Called and asked for a sales person to close the hood. Came back to check on it, and the hood wasn't completely closed. Asked a sales associate to watch me close the hood on my own Bronco. He told me that he noticed that the Bronco had the hood up the whole week, but didn't know why. He also agreed that it was really negligent.

No updates on the diagnosis because no one has even looked at it since it was dropped off. Super frustrating experience overall. Clearly the do not care about your vehicle.

Will post once the issue has finally been resolved.

Has anyone had a similar experience like this at your dealer/service facility?

I had a tundra that had some electrical quirks that the dealer could never fix. Spent a lot of time and money messing with it and ultimately it never worked as it should. With how terrible the dealer service experience is these days I’d personally assume there’s going to be more headaches down the road and have ford buy it back from you.
PS I’d be livid about the scenario you are describing with the hood.

I actually saw your Bronco in that exact spot on Sunday but the hood was down. I hadn't seen your post but I was looking at the hoods of all the Broncos on the lot to check for hail damage and swirl marks on the hood. My Bronco that I ordered back in October 2021 finally arrived...with dozens of small dents on the hood and very visible swirl marks which they said they didn't notice until I pointed them out. Needless to say I'm having issues with them over that and price protection.
