I’ve had my bronco for just under a week now and am torn between scheduling for ppf on all painted surfaces minus the tailgate (~$4000) or simply putting my rocker panel stripe on and my jtops Bimini and just saving the money for other future mods (fog lights, performance tune, exhaust, CAI, possibly an ADV hardtop, etc.) I don’t plan on hitting too many wooded trails, never plan on rock crawling, and mainly plan to use for light dune use several times a year up at silver lake in Michigan. I wasn’t sure if the sand was a big concern for paint or not. I have some Rokblokz XL on the way on Monday for the front tires to reduce rock chips. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I did PPF on the full hood, A-pillar surround, painted parts of the front and leading edges of front fenders, and headlights. Then added mud flaps. A lot cheaper than full PPF, and probably gets you 90% of the protection for the most vulnerable surfaces, IMO.

Any noticeable difference in appearance of panels that touch that are and aren’t wrapped?

If you don’t get mud flaps then the area right behind the front tire will get dings. if you plan on keeping the Bronco a long time and don‘t like dings, it’s great to get the PPF now before you get any. Mods can be done whenever. I waited on my PPF and got some tiny blemishes that I PPF‘d over and can still see them.

Full PPF a week after buying. This thing is a brick on wheels and takes things head on. Road debris gets kicked onto the sides unless you have mud flaps and/or side steps. I opted to add both. It's cheap prevention.

Glad I added PPF. Something hit my a-pillar, which gouged my PPF and still left a minor paint chip, I can only imagine what would have happened without it. Also, dealer tech not listening to my advice to hold the cowl down before lifting the hood when diagnosing why the cowl is failing to clip down, resulted in the PPF getting mangled a little bit instead of the paint.

Moral of the story - you can be as careful as you want, but the environment around you in uncontrollable. Add whatever levels of protection you want and can afford. They will only go so far, as well.

Well that’s a fair way to determine and yeah the peace of mind sounds good. I was worried about how a bug deflector would attach. And respond to the ppf

I too have been thinking about the bug deflector. This thing is a bug magnet and I'm getting a little burned out on cleaning the windshield. I think mounting tape would be fine on top of PPF, but that 3M tape will only be as secure as the PPF. If you do get PPF, discuss the bug deflector with your installer. They know the tolerance and limitations of the adhesive they use for their PPF. You could also leave the front lip without PPF to plan ahead for a deflector.

when I got my bronco the dealer ordered a skip chip package with PPF. It covered the hood, front fenders, lower 1/4 on the doors (2 door) , inside the door handles, corners of the door edges, under the corners of the hard top, where it could rub on the paint, and a few other random high use spots.

If I were going to do it again, at a minimum, I would do the following:
  • Under the door handles (rings, watches, etc can scratch the paint there)
  • Along the leading edge of the hood, up 3 inches.
  • Door edges, and any other wear areas.
If you go off-road, fenders might make sense. Only the front on mine, I may add rear and doors down the road.

Here is where the hood PPF protected my paint after an offroad area where I had to clear the trail for others which had me nose first into some brush.

I consider the pinstripes to be badges of honor. But that’s just me.

Thank you, I absolutely love it, I bought in remembrance of my mom. She passed away last year from colon cancer, way too young, and was so excited about them bringing the bronco back.

PPF is well worth it! I installed mudflaps right on the dealer lot before driving off, a week later PPF, then step/slider by Zroadz. Even with mudflaps from time to time I'll hear a ping from a rock or two hitting the underside of the step/slider. The PPF is the last line of defense for me. It's great too, I just use a detail spray and duster to keep it clean and looking freshly washed.

PPF was the first thing I did on my bronco! It hurt spending the money but I told myself a few years back that it would be the first thing I would do on my next car. I went for the stealth PPF to switch it up a bit.
