Hadn’t seen anyone try this yet so I thought I’d post about my setup. Wanted to try using my cargo rack to hold a sub so I figured what the hell. First order of business was to put sound deadening material on all the brackets. Since my @Mountains2Metal cargo try shares a mounting bracket with the upper and lower molle panels I put the material in a number of spots. Figured this would be the ultimate rattle test for the tray, especially given the fact that it is a flip up tray.

I mounted a kicker 8” sub with 8” passive radiator. (Note this sub is too large for the production version of the cargo tray as it’s depth was decreased to accommodate all rear seating positions). Installed a 5 channel Kicker amp that sends 300 Watts to the sub. Connected to the head unit with a @plugnplaykits harness.

Another nice discovery with the amp was that you can turn off fader on it, which means all 4 channels and the sub use the input signal from the front speakers. No more worries about the head unit rolling off the rear as bad as it does.

The verdict is, pretty excellent bass (not trying to rattle the car apart, this is a relatively modest setup) and ZERO rattle from sitting on the cargo tray. And as a bonus, I can flip it up out of the way when I need to transport larger items.

Would it take up too much room if you mounted it on the bottom side so you can still use the rack?

If you can do all that, get the attic rack and put it up near the roof I totally out of the way :)

The one I’m using is only 5“ tall. Not sure what you would consider taking up too much room but it’s very low profile for a subwoofer of its capabilities

I just meant it sitting in your rack where you normally would put "stuff"... Whereas the bottom side is unusable unless that 5" would dip down into the cargo area enough to block things (like a fridge or something)
