Rear Bumper Lights

For anyone looking to add rear bumper lights that doesn’t want to buy a kit. I found these 90 degree brackets from Lowe’s for $4.98 each. They are carbon steel and come powder coated in black. I know you can order just brackets for about $40 but why spend it when you don’t have too. I just used a stepper bit to make the top hole big enough for the factory bolt on the bumper and then drilled another hole on the bottom to mount the light. It mounts in the same spot as other brackets and sits at just the right height. It’s a little tucked but low enough for the light to not be blocked by the bumper. I ran these to the rear aux wire to use on an aux switch.

Thanks!! I’m all about spending the money on quality parts, but certain things just don’t matter. That location is always going to be susceptible to a broken or bent bracket in an off road environment so it’s a cheap solution. You could actually buy a couple pairs, pre drill them and keep them in the trunk to fix right there on the trail.

Do you have more pics and description of where/how you wired the rear for the aux switch?

I routed the wires to the outside of the bumper and back to the inside and attached with zip ties above the tow hitch. Then I attached both left and right wires to the bottom of the body with zip ties. There’s a rubber grommet in the floor that I used a razor to make a small slit in order to pull the wires through. Unfortunately I don’t have any pics of the inside without removing all the panels again, but if you remove the panels the aux wire is by the seatbelt. I just ran the wires around the factory sub box and used the ground above it. Hope the pics help.

One more thing, I didn’t run the braided wire loom through the grommet. I cut it off and used heat shrink on the ends and just fed the wires through

I went a slightly different route, still have the brackets and will replicate your set up as a plan-B. I ended up mounting to the steel bumper. Finding that rear aux wire was such a PITA...but took my time and made it work. Not sure how, as I didn't take apart much lol.

Looks great but I know I would rip those off pretty quick. Did flush mount in the bumper for more protection, but I like the idea.

They came out great. I honestly didn’t even think about drilling into the bumper I keep forgetting it’s steel lol

I started with those then I replaced my bumpers with incorporated lights. I like to do things twice. Really just getting rid of plastic bumper
