Kind of a dumb question, but can anyone confirm that if the Union Pacific trace system says a railcar is "Empty, Released to Industry," that means it's been delivered at its dropoff location? Today my dealer called me to say that after sitting in the railyard in town for a few days, my hardtop Bronco appears not to be taken off the train, and instead sent back to Detroit. I then called Union Pacific's trace system and got the "Empty, Released to Industry" status. That would suggest to me that it got unloaded here in town, but somehow my dealer has lost track of it. Anyone have any insight on this UP status?

Usually, emptied released to customer or similar means it was scanned at the Railyard, and awaiting convoy pick up. Did you talk to chat at Ford or marketing on phone?

Your dealer sees same as marketing and chat. The location will be on VINVIEW or Ford back end. They will know location. I’ve never heard that dealer would somehow have knowledge of a Bronco sent back, unless damage was found that was significant. VINVIEW will also show damage reported. Something isn’t right.

Thanks for the response. Now I'm being told that one system shows the Bronco still in Michigan. That must be VINVIEW. Dealer says that it probably wasn't ever loaded at MAP, so that's why my railcar shows as empty. Getting in touch with marketing or the chat is the next task. I'm hoping there is a way that shipping mishap situations like this can get resolved.

Who gave you rail car number? Are you on a chip hold?

My dealer and then just a few minutes ago Ford chat gave me that same rail car number. I'm not aware of being on a chip hold. How would I be able to tell that? I received the email saying it had shipped and with an ETA. And it's shown as shipped in the Ford vehicle tracker for 2-3 weeks.

When did you get rail car and stated ship date? Did you track your railcar through the process, or did you just receive it, and found it was empty? It maybe still in loading process, on ramp, waiting to get into an empty car. What was last tracked location, if you tracked?

The stated ship date was 12/22, with an ETA between 1/3 and 1/9. But I did not track the railcar the whole way. I only got the railcar number today after my dealer called to say it looked like the Bronco never got unloaded and the train was back on its way to Michigan. After that, I called Union Pacific directly and found out the railcar was empty as of 1/9. Prior to that the railcar's last tracked location was 1/7, when it was received in San Antonio (final destination), and where a ramp number was listed. But today my dealer reached out to his contacts at that railyard who haven't seen it. It's a mystery at the moment, and I just hope I can figure out where it really is. Ford chat had the same information about the 1/7 railcar received date. I'll see if I can get some better information out of the marketing folks on Monday.

Thanks so much for all of the great tracking information in this post. I should have tracked the train sooner, but I was only able to get some of the information I do have using the great references in this post.

Ok
Your ship times are right in line and I highly doubt that with unload times and reload, ship back times, it is seemingly not feasible to be somehow back in Michigan in that short of time. Possibility they didn’t scan it in at Railyard. Have you put your vin into united tracking to see if it was on a convoy after rail yard. If you are unsure of that, see my OP or DM me your vin.

Dealer can log on and see. They see same info Marketing does, even though marketing states dealer has more resources, they don’t …
Ford Chat will also give you railcar info .
Dumb question here, but I have looked and can’t find the answer—how do I get to the Ford chat to find railcar info? The website says built and enroute—My dealer says they only know that it’s due “before end of the month”. Thanks.

Thanks for the help! I used the chat, which told me there is no rail car # but my vehicle has been received at Ramp C in Spokane, and is due at my dealer Jan 24. not sure why it will take 9 days to 2 weeks to go the 70 miles to Sandpoint, but at least I know it exists. Tempted to try to find it at the Railyard....
