Reliable Transporters?

Hello All,

I finally did the dang thing out of state and now I am trying to figure out if it's better to transport or fly there and pick it up. I think this question was asked before, but can anyone recommend reliable transporters? Feeling a bit nervous about it!

I would not blindly transport a vehicle without being there first to inspect and check for major gaffs before taking delivery. Too much chance for a bang in transport or some extra item inside go missing and then who do you go after, dealer, transport company. To me that means flying out to inspect. At that point I would probably drive.

I have used Montway auto transport twice. Recently they hauled our Bronco from Utah to California, where we had it loaded on a ship to get it here to Hawaii.

The Bronco arrived on time and in perfect condition. I did have an enclosed transporter. They have great reviews and were easy to work with.

If you have the time I would fly there take a day or two to drive around then head home. Take your time and use the side roads instead of the interstates. Make it a small vacation.

I have a private shipping broker I’ve used and put in contact for a couple others on here. His shipped over 30 vehicles for me. Message if you want his contact info.

You pretty much tell him where to pick it up and drop it off. He handles the rest. Over 30 transactions, not a single issue.

I am in the same boat. I will purchase the Bronco at a California dealership, but I live in Oregon. I cannot fly there and drive it back because I would have to pay California sales tax. There’s no sales tax in Oregon. So, I have to get it shipped.

Why would you have to pay California sales tax? Wouldn’t they just put your address in and take care of all the out of state? Or they can put a temporary tag on it and then register it here?

Not the case. I contacted California, DMV and Oregon DMV. If you drive it off the lot in the state of California, you have to pay the sales tax. No room for argument. I researched this for two months straight.

Wow, I should probably figure all of that out, before I make the decision Monday.

Don't forget that we're hitting car auction season right now so a lot of transporters might have most of their rigs in AZ for Barrett Jackson, Mecum and the other auctions. I used InterCity Lines (I think that's who it was) to get my Camaro from Calif to NJ in an enclosed trailer.

Well, maybe one of the BJ shippers will have room for one more on the way to AZ... otherwise it looks like I'm making the haul to Oklahoma.
