Hey all! I'm lucky enough to have saved for two years/sold my old vehicle to fully pay off my bronco when it arrived. Once I payed it off, the bank notified the state and they then mailed me the title. Just got it the other day and noticed under the Body section it says "4D SW" well my Bronco is a 2 door. Am I reading that "4D SW" as "4 Door Station Wagon" correctly? Not questioning the Station Wagon part but 4D seems like it might be wrong. I'm in Virginia if that helps as God knows all state titles seem to be different. Appreciate any help as most likely the state won't even understand its own documents if I bring it to the DMV so hoping someone here knows.

Update: I created an update post but to summarize basically I was right in my assumptions.

Bronco has always been available as a wagon.

I always think it's funny most SUV drivers think they're not driving a station wagon.

Overall the 4Dr part doesn't matter, might be what's in their system. I'd bring up next time you register if it still bothers you.

Thanks but I kinda suspected that as my dad owned a 70s bronco and was classified as station wagon, my question was about it being "4D SW" I am guessing 4D means 4 door and thats the problem as I have a 2 door.

Yep, I posted before I addressed that part, been edited to add it really doesn't matter but probably needs to be corrected eventually.

Gotcha, yeah I wanna have the plates changed over to the old ones I had anyway so I'll be there soon enough but I have a sneaking suspicion when I ask to change 4D to 2D I'm just gonna get a blank stare at the DMV. Thanks for the reply!

Go to the DMV and make them fix it. Or make the dealer un-f&CK their mistake. Get it fixed sooner than later. It would bug me too man.

Ask about it. I’m in PA and was selling an auto where they messed up my name on the title. I didn’t realize it right away and I had to pay the fees for it.

Granted different than auto type, but (at least in PA), if there is a title error by the DMV, they’ll fix it, but after a certain amount of time (90 days iirc) the title change fees are on you regardless of who made the mistake.

Make sure the VIN is correct. Went to license a truck once and noticed one small error in the description. Looked closer and saw the dealership gave me the title to a similar, but different truck.

Probably fine?
Many states don't have an SUV or crossover category for titling - so guess what they wind up listed as...

For instance, from Arizona...

Go to DMV and point it out when you get the chance. Virginia is unforgiving.

Good points, interestingly enough I actually purchased from a dealer in PA so we'll see if that plays into it.

Is it possible the 4D is an abbreviation for 4 Wheel Drive?
I was thinking that it could be too, but God only knows with gov documents....it seems every state has a list of abbreviations from their respective dmv but I can't find virginia's.

Yep gotcha thanks for the reply, but my problems less with it being a station wagon as that's fine from what I know and more it has a "4D" on it meaning 4 door I think. Mines 2 door.
