Worked up an rear antenna mount thought I would share.

Bought a Jeep rear tire mount of amazon. Bolt holes were way off as I expected. So did some cutting. After getting it on I realized the tire sat too far back for the antenna to fit. So a 1 inch wheel spacer on the rear tire carrier did the trick. Pics of the interesting parts below. Added measurements of the bracket I modified incase someone wants to make their own

Thank you for the measurements on the bracket. It made it easy to do mine. I used a 1.5" space (I have a Bandlands SAS with 35 in tires. A 1 inch and 1.25 inch would not work for clearance. A 1.50 spacer finally did the trick. I also upgraded the spare tire bumpers and these work perfect. I used the pin from the old bumper, cut off the rubber insert on the new larger bumper and used the old pin.
I also have three extra black 1.50" spacers so if anyone wants to buy one, hit me up. I paid $110 for four of them. LInk to tail gate bumpers and flag holder. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BX41WL2?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

This is a great way to mount an Amateur Radio Antenna, as it offers strength that is needed for some of our antennas. I followed this thread and obtained some 3/16" steel plate, to which being a past machinist, fabricated the mount. I also bought the wheel spacers which I think was a beautiful idea to use. As for the two rubber bumpers on the lower side of the tire, I used two 1/2" thick, by 2" hard rubber spacers, and extended the bumpers out to hit the bottom of the tire, to help on those bumpy roads.

Being that you have to buy 4 wheel spacers at a time, I have three that I am willing to part with, say about $30 each and that includes shipping. A bargain!

I mounted my antenna and ran the coax through the same rubber grommet that is on the rear of the Bronco Door, and routed the coax to the radio. But whoever said they used the Auxiliary switch #1, it is only good for 30 amps DC, whereas the Icom 2730A radio needs more than that, and the gauge of wire the Bronco uses is not large enough. The wiring that comes with the radio used 10 gauge wire, and the Bronco is only 18. Furthermore, it is recommended that the radio be wired to the Battery.

With that being said, I think this was a great idea, and I really enjoyed the pics and other comments.

In the past I have wired straight to the battery, but I also saw that the icom wiring harness has a 15A fuse (manual says transmit is 13A) that comes standard, why wouldn’t a circuit rated for 30A be enough?

To remove the rubber bumpers, did you just pull on the bumpers to take off, which would then expose the plastic fastener? I'm about to clay/polish/ceramic coat the rear door and want to take off the bumpers and then re-mount them once I'm finished with the process! Great photos!

The bumpers have a screw inside. You unscrew them but that did not seem to work so I had to pull them out with needle nose pliers.

Very gently unscrew the plastic screw from the fastener. Don't put any inward pushing pressure on the screw as the threads are very shallow.

Here are some images of our Antenna / Flag mount! Let us know if this helps or if you have any questions.

thanks for those. I would be using the bracket with out the carrier, and really just the bottom bracket on the top hinge. I sand to keep my HAM antenna higher. Any reason I can’t use the bottom plate on the top hindge?

We don't recommend installing it that way but the bottom bracket will fit on the top hinge if you choose to do so.

Did you figure out what size space is required for this mount on a SAS package?
1.5 spacer works but seems way more than needed(with stock 35’s SAS). I have a 1inch spacer on order, should be here in another week. From what I measured, I think 1inch will work but I’ll report back.
