FINALLY, after almost 2 years, got my VIN and build date from Ford and they're building the wrong vehicle! Anyone have a strategy or direct contact to get this straightened out?

I originally ordered a Black Diamond, mid package. I mostly city drive and drive in the desert on sand roads. I was very overwhelmed with all the options but knew I wanted the wash out floors and vinyl seats for my dogs. This is going to be a lifetime vehicle for me. After attending Off-Roadeo I realized just how helpful the front stabilizer disconnect and locking differentials were. I'm not planning to do a lot of hard rock crawling like we did at Off-Roadeo but I also don't want to make a mistake not having something that might be a big difference maker. So I updated my vehicle order to a Badlands with the high package. I love everything about the look and spent hours trying to fine tune the options. When I got the email today that my BD was being built I panicked and called the dealership. They told me the order update "didn't stick" and my only option is to place a new order when the banks open in October and wait 3-4 months after that for delivery! WHAT!? Yes, I too smell bs but the deed has already been done.

I just got my confirmation from Ford today and hoping I can call quickly and get this straightened out. Any help is greatly appreciated. I can't stomach waiting 10 more months for this vehicle. I feel like I'm being toyed with. Am I also wild for thinking I need the stabilizer disconnect and front locking differentials? I'll do some mountain trails that we've done in an old Wrangler in the past, probably explore places like Moab some and sandy washes but I'm not planning to do wheels way up in the air craziness like we did at Off-Roadeo.

I placed my reservation in August 2020
Original order placed in March 2021
Told to redo my order by dealer in October 2021 for the '22 MY
Told again to redo my order in December 2021 to get things quicker, this is when I upgraded.

dealer flubbed it, and from what i've seen here once it gets pulled it's going. the only option i'm aware of is getting a priority order in that still will take months if you are lucky to get that.

imo run with the bd. i was on the fence between the two and love it, you won't be disappointed. if you decide that you still need the bl order one when the banks open on 8/15. resell should still be good and you get to drive the bd while you wait.

if you're not doing serious offroading front locker isn't needed. you can get bl coilover takeoffs for 6-700 (and a ton of other aftermarket stuff/ford performance) and 33s-35s. could go even cheaper and just do a level. the real, and only loss would be the high package stuff.

Thanks! I just spoke with the Bronco line who were basically "mmmmm, yeaaaaah, gonna need that tps report" level helpful. They said I have to go back to my dealer and there are no priority orders at this point.

I'm crazy disappointed but I may just do what you suggest. I just hate the idea of waiting this whole time and ending up with something sub-par. Sounds like I might be over thinking this though.

Well on the plus side, if you had the Badlands with High package on your order, you wouldn't have a VIN and wouldn't have a Bronco being built..... Sooooooo your thread would instead be "I still don't have a damn VIN!". 🤷‍♂️

Based on how the launch is going you need to take the victories where you can get them. Meaning:

  1. Absolutely take delivery of this BD/Mid that's being built and drive it!
  2. put in an order for MY23 for the Badlands/High (plus whatever new options you like for MY23!)
  3. When the Badlands comes, sell the BD. You'll either make money on the deal or come out even, plus you will have had a Bronco to drive.

Life is all about finding hidden advantages. That's what Tony Robbins teaches!

Worst case get your Bd and rock it for the summer while they build your BL. You will get your money back out of the BD.

Take the BD and the (likely 8k savings over the Badlands).

You don't need a front locker. Rear locker is really nice if you accidentally stop in sand though.

Once a VIN is issued, you can only make small changes (that don't affect the VIN encoding). Is it at least the color you want?

Black Diamond would have been my preferred trim if I could have got cloth seats.

Yeah, if you’re already saying you’re not going to hardcore rock crawl all that much, I’d just stick with the BD.

Don’t F this whole thing up further over a FSB Disco…. What’s the point of that?

Y'all are making me feel much better about the situation and for that I thank you! Yes, it is the color I wanted, PHEW.

My Black Diamond shows both rear AND front lockers. Not sure if it is part of the Sasquatch package but check your window sticker. It should be listed. Anyway, take the BD and enjoy all the stuff without the fluff for now.

Just my opinion, but if you want a "lifetime" vehicle getting the high package with a bunch of extra cameras and electronics that are bound to break is probably not the best idea. The discos on Wranglers are also notoriously unreliable. The Bronco uses a new type of setup, but I'm not going to be a guinea pig for that experiment either.

Your situation sucks1 I hate to be the barer of bad news though but this is ultimately on you. Yes the dealership fucked up by not following through and making sure your order updated, but Ford provides reservation/order holders with the tools to verify their orders are correct long before build dates and VIN's are assigned through the trackers that are provided.

As for placing another order and waiting 3 to 4 months , I'm not sure that'S a promise the dealership can make. Who knows how long you'd have to wait for a MY23 build
