Thanks for posting this!!! I did it, and as hard as I pushed, I couldn’t get a gap. However, the God awful squeak is gone!! I must have given just enough wiggle room.

Awesome! Glad you got some relief from that obnoxious squeak lol. Thanks for posting this!!! I did it, and as hard as I pushed, I couldn’t get a gap. However, the God awful squeak is gone!! I must have given just enough wiggle room.
Don’t remember exactly. It’s metric, probably 10. For a lot of people this squeak is the rubber gaskets around tailgate/lift gate so be aware of that possibility.Just picked my Black Diamond up 10 days ago and this started last night. Now persistent...
What size are the mounting bolts? Going to try this when I get home.
Thanks!
if that's the case, some silicone lubricant should work, correct?Don’t remember exactly. It’s metric, probably 10. For a lot of people this squeak is the rubber gaskets around tailgate/lift gate so be aware of that possibility.
Ford recommends Krytox. I think others have used silicon though.if that's the case, some silicone lubricant should work, correct?
Thanks again for the help!
Tried the silicone lubricant and the slight movement of the fender away from the corner of the hard top. It has gotten WORSEFord recommends Krytox. I think others have used silicon though.
so that sounds like the ”case of water bottles” squeaks to me, which I’m gonna lean towards the rubber seals. I haven’t seen any evidence silicone spray has fixed this. I would get the krytox lube ford recommends. Since you wipe this on you can verify you’ve gotten everything well. Get every seal around the tailgate, lift gate, the little rubber stoppers on both as well.Tried the silicone lubricant and the slight movement of the fender away from the corner of the hard top. Any other ideas??
Ya, if its that bad probably want to let the dealer do the nip/tuck vs risking damaging yourself. Let us know how it goes!I noticed the attached TSB specifically calls out the 5 (4) door, but I had the same issue with my 3 (2) door. The quarter panel alignment of the passenger side is completely off from the driver side, and before reading this I suspected as much - my squeaking/chirping is coming from it rubbing.
I tried multiple times reseating the MIC, using silicone lubricant, and even adding rubber washers to offset - nothing.
Thanks so much for this post...I want to fix it myself, but my gap is even obnoxiously larger than yours and I'm worried I'm not going to be able to get it to the appropriate gap without damaging it in the process.
Awesome! I did the same - had my wife drive me around the block while I sat back there and mine is absolutely coming from the weather stripping at the bottom of the rear windshield that seals against the metal of the top of the swing gate. I have some 3M anti-squeak tape coming tomorrow that I am going to put on the swing gate where it makes contact (a trick I learned from the Wrangler forums this weekend, since they all have the same issue). I will install that and see if it fixes the issue. If that doesn't completely fix it, I am going to try the Krytox.@Joey.calc
So I broke down out of impatience and adjusted my passenger quarter panel as per @Ksjrb03 's fix, and it certainly helped (and looks better), but my squeak/rattle persisted. That "crunchy plastic water bottle" noise like in your video.
I had someone crawl in the back to try and help me isolate the sound further, and ultimately it was found to be coming from the rear window seal and the tailgate.
I beefed up the weatherstripping with some spare I found lying around...now the contact is tighter and it's weatherstripping on weatherstripping. It worked, no more squeaking! I think I may try some felt stripping instead and take it the whole way across to improve it further, but it took the annoyance level down from a 90 to a 10.

So happy I found this thread. I added a strip of weather stripping across the top of the tailgate and it 100% eliminated the creaking noise. That damn noise was going to be a dealbreaker for me if I couldn't fix it. But now it sounds like what the quiet interior of a vehicle should sound like.@Joey.calc
