Yeah this is how it's currently set up.

Maybe it's an issue specific to the 12v adapter. Mine is hard wired to the upfitter switch.

Lol I was waiting for you to turn the ignition off and back on see that it powered back up on its own!

I don't think it's the adapter, of course anything is possible but they literally say cut off the cigarette lighter part and use the wires if wiring directly.

Maybe I'll reach out to Midland support and ask.

I already had prior to hitting record. You can see just flipping the switch turned on the radio, I didn't have to hit its power button. I just pressed the WX button in the video.

Duh.. I don't know how I missed that. Well that sucks... I'll reach out to Midland and see what they say.

Could be wrong, but it looks like he removed the glove box and took a picture from the floorboard facing up.

My MTX275 instantly powers up when I switch my aux switch on, I don't have to press the power button on the handset every time. I don't think I changed any settings to make it do that. I would also like to see if its possible to swap an aux switch to constant power instead of ignition though so the radio can stay on.
What AUX switch did you put your radio on? Midland says it needs a 15A Fuse. Is this Aux 2?

Most ham radios these days have a feature called APO. It’s a fancy way of saying Auto Power Off. You can set a time limit if the radio isn’t active and it will self power off. Might be an option with the Midlands as they seem to be feature rich? Dunno.
That's usually an option on HTs but I'm not sure about mobiles. I do know that mobile Midlands still draw a little bit of power when turned off.

And no, Midlands typically have the least features of any manufacturer. They stick with the KISS principle.

I do want the new MXT575 though! Just trying to figure out where/how to mount that plus a ham radio and antennae.

Yes some ham mobiles have APO. Probably most new ones these days. Bummer on Midland’s lack of attention to features. I’ve never used one but they seem nice. I don’t need a GMRS but they are tempting anyway.

I set out to install a GMRS radio in the Bronco, but pretty early into shopping for options realized that there really isn't an ideal place to put the head unit without being inconveniently located or intrusive.

Enter the Midland MXT275.

After reading some threads on here from people who had done an install, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I installed the radio under my center console and installed a remote Cat5e jack into the front storage tray of the center console. Mounting the radio could not have been easier. I bored out the center mounting hole on the Midland bracket and used the existing fastener Ford uses for the transmission cable pass-through to mount the radio body.

Wiring it was a breeze. I powered it using the Brown/White Aux switch wire behind the glove box, which conveniently comes completely off with no tools. I then ran the antenna cable under the driver's side dash and through an extra grommet in the firewall. I then routed the cable up through the cowl and to the Driver's side pillar, where I installed a JCR ditch light bracket and Midland antenna.

It really felt as though they designed this truck to have this exact radio installed. If people show interest in this install I'd be happy to provide all of the links to what I bought. But for now, here are the install pics:

That's a solid 9 out of 10 clean install! Beautifully done and super functional!

How large is the control module for that, since it wasn't included in the photographs.

Sooooooooo close to a 10 out of 10 clean install! :ROFLMAO:

Lol, that darn tape! 🤣

If you go back to earlier in the thread there is a picture of it in the console. It is about the size of two large smart phones stacked together. I plan on making a video walk through of my install soon. Hopefully I will have time this weekend.

Keep in mind the 575 is much bigger than the 275. it's pretty much the same size as the 500 so may not fit in some of the same spaces.
You are right. I just got it today. I'm convinced it will fit under the dash or even under the passenger seat. My weekend project

I’m laying on my back on the floor looking up into the glovebox area with the glovebox removed. It is mounted behind the passenger airbag above where the glovebox would be. Super easy install with plenty of room up there.
