I've owned stock in Ford for a few years now and I know it's not worth very much but it has been paying good dividends. My dealer said to have a pin number when I come in to order in December, if I didn't have one they could get it for me
I thought Ford suspended dividend payments in March.

This seems to be a VERY gray area.
From Ford Partners Plan rules:

How do I participate?
Step 1:Generate your PIN on this website.
Step 2:Visit your local dealer with your PIN and immediately identify yourself as a Partner Recognition participant. Provide your PIN and the last 4 numbers of your Social Insurance Number to verify your eligibility.
Step 3:Provide proof of employment or membership by an eligible Ford Partner through a pay stub, company I.D., T4, membership letter, membership card, etc.
Step 4:Select your new vehicle.
Step 5:Request vehicle invoice from sales representative to confirm plan price.
Step 6:Discuss financing options.
Step 7:Drive home in your new set of wheels.

By the looks of it, this is at time of purchase/delivery.

Nope. At purchase/delivery. Those rules are for picking out something on the lot.

You need the PIN at time of purchase. But, make sure to let them know you're x-plan eligible when you order. It's good to get this in writing.

You need the PIN at time of purchase. If you have it for ordering, it'll be expired by the time Broncos roll on the lots.
Dang I just generated mine.. can you renew it before it expires? Or is this a one time thing

But there's no way to know for sure what will happen in the markets even if Bronco performs well for Ford. Viruses, elections, international incidents, etc. all have a way of suddenly tweaking the markets in unpredictable directions. I guess you could commit to hold the stock long, which reduces your cap gains tax as well.
If it's already in an IRA, just reallocate some of something else toward F stock. No additional tax liability.

But there are usually brokerage fees higher than $25. So I tend to agree, the MCA is the least amount and effort ventured with the least amount of risk attached and the fastest result time.
Not posting my brokerage service publicly, but mine has $0 brokerage fees on most individual stocks, including Ford. In fact I have 3 or 4 brokers for various IRA, 401(k) accounts, etc., and only one still has brokerage fees and that's the one I'm forced to use for my HSA.

MCA club is a guaranteed $25 loss and no benefit to me (I don't own a Mustang). If "low risk" means literally throwing money away, then I love me some risk. ;)

I think you are allowed 2 per year. Good for 12 months from the date you generate it.

From what I have read, and from the dealer I have spoken with, you only truly need it when you are in a finance office handling payment at the very end at the time of delivery. The dealer is not going to stop you from ordering it in December, whether you have a PIN then or not, because they will be happy to take it off your hands at delivery and put on their lot above MSRP. My local dealer has already dared me (in an email) to walk away because he says he has a "long list" of people waiting to buy my Bronco off their lot if I back out.

It takes 2 months to get a PIN through the MCA at $25, and 6 months to get a PIN through ownership off 100 shares of Ford stock at ~7/share (today's closing price). Plenty of time either way. Options are good.
You only need the PIN when the salesman it putting the paperwork together. You can get it while at the dealer when picking the vehicle up if need be. I helped my Sister buy a car a few months ago and forgot to bring the printout. We simply looked it up there. Although the PIN is good for 1 year and you can obtain 2 per year, no need to rush.

If the dealer doesn't know you and that you have X plan, yes tell them right away. Some dealers won't accept X plan, so it's important. I've never been asked for my PIN in 11 buys and 2 for my Sister until after agreeing to buy and paperwork is being put together.

If you don't validate your x plan eligibility at order how do you know what you are going to pay. Seems to me you would need this agreed to up front.

I agree. I have had the pleasure of hashing this subject out in another thread and I think the consensus is that folks are debating semantics. I believe that technically at time of delivery and signing final papers, you need to present your PIN. However, as has been mentioned here, no semi smart car buyer is going to place the order without knowing what the dealer's final cost is going to be. In order to have that price on a sell sheet, you need to let them know you have X plan. At this point, the dealer can either take your word for it and put it in writing without every seeking proof that you are a true X planner knowing that if you can't produce the documents at time of signing, they are going to raise the price and if you walk they have a new Bronco to sell at well above MSRP.
However, some dealers may require proof of X plan status before they put the price on the sell sheet and order it in which case you would need to provide your PIN or other documentation as directed by the Plan policies.

Does the X-Plan PIN have to be under your name?
I don't own any Ford shares myself, but a family member does. My plan is to have him generate a PIN for me to use.
