Have him pay whatever the dealer charges, including sales tax, delivery, license and reg, and then add $4000. After short Term capital gain you’ll still be up a few thousand, and this person will owe you a favor.

I’m thinking outside the box here…… Seems like you are of enough means (buying three new cars at once) that maybe even 5k minus cap gains might not really be worth your time. Go to dealer and offer to let this one go if they’ll agree to take 5k off your dad‘s bronco when it comes in. You benefit, and the dealer is gonna benefit to the tune of 10k when all said and done. I have done this before (slightly different situation: let a raptor go for an agreed discount on a gt350 6 months later.

It needs to be enough money to be worth your while. I’d look to net $10k pre income tax

OP ... I assume you already know your VIN. With your VIN, go online to CarMax, Vroom and Carvana and see what they would offer you.
They offered me $65k for my Badlands ($53K sticker) - but I was honestly just curious and have no interest in selling.

Problem here is that I am not focused on making $. I am focused on not letting the dealer make a crazy ADM while helping a "friend". But yes, your idea is a good one. Although I still think my dealer would say no.

Has it really gotten to the point where people create threads to ask how much they should price gouge? :ROFLMAO:
Took longer than expected for this comment.

What would you do?

1. Abandon and let dealer mark up 15K?

2. Take out a 60k loan, assume all the risk, and then sell it to someone for exactly what you paid?

Also, you cannot price gouge something that is not a necessity. This is why ADM is not a crime.

I'm just always amazed that people ask for financial advice on a vehicle forum. Whatever I did, I damn sure wouldn't be asking random strangers what I should do with my property or money.

I am not really asking for financial advice. I am asking for opinions on what mark-up would be fair for me (my troubles and getting a loan) vs not taking advantage of the market in an unreasonable way.

What better place to get opinions on a fair mark-up than on a site full of people who have been waiting forever and/or got taken advantage of by a dealer ADM at pick-up?

I know I could buy it and sell it for 10-15k over. I choose not to bc I dont like the dealer ADM games. However, as an individual buyer, and not a dealership, in order to take on the trouble/risk I need something back.

If all I was thinking about was financial advice I would not have made the post. I would grab it and mark it up 10-15K.

So here's how I see it, and this seems to be a fair way to go about it.

You sell it for a price where you break even after taxes plus either $500 to $2000 (whatever makes you feel good).

That way you get a little something for your efforts and he's just making sure that you don't lose any money on the deal. Totally transparent, no one is wondering who got what, and you can not worry about being the a-hole. Remember, the buyer can always say no.

I know some dealers have been offering to pay customers who are dropping their reservations 2-3k. Might be worth exploring for some easy money with no risk. Leaves your buyer high and dry but, fuck em

The $ guy in me says yes. But my whole point of even thinking about this is that I dont want to let the dealer have it bc they will mark-up by 10-15K.

I know, in the end why should I give a shit? If someone is willing to pay it whatever...... but if I can keep it from happening, and a guy with a first week res can get his Bronco for a fair market price, I would rather that happen.

LMFAO, I saw 3 Big Bend Broncos on the dealer lot the other day, the cheapest one had an MSRP of 38k with enough dealer nonsense (including a 15k ADM) to bring the price up to $58k, the other 2 Big Bends were above 60k. One had General Grabbers for an additional $2000 - ya seriously. No sasquatch, nothing really upgraded, one had a locker with no ADV 4x4, but all in all none of them had anything special.

This dealer would have been asking more like $75-80k for a Badlands. I wish that this was unusual, but it's not.

Long story short. I have 2 Broncos on res (Day 2 res holder). One for me and one for my dad as a surprise. I got tired of waiting on mine but kept the res just in case. I received my MY22 D90 last Tuesday. Yesterday I get a pic/e-mail that my Bronco is ready after zero updates for a couple of months. Unfortunately my dad's is still pending. I was hoping my dad's would be done first, but nope. Also, I cannot give him this one to my dad bc I got him CO (he loves him some orange cars).

So now I have this Bronco that I can abandon and watch the dealer mark-up 15k OR I can buy it and flip it.

I want to flip it to someone (already have someone lined up. He is an acquaintance. So while I know him I dont know him THAT well) with a balance of it being worth my time while not ripping him off.

Just tossing a # out there...... For it to be worth my while of getting a loan and assuming the risk if the buyer backs out, plus having to pay tax on the profit I would make, I was thinking 5k to 7,500. But even throwing that # out there makes me feel like an ass. In the end I still need to get something for the "trouble".

Really wish I could simply have him come to the dealer and buy it from them at MSRP but the dealer already told me they wont allow it since they would mark it up 15k.

Thoughts? Is 5k too much?

What if anything will out you be out in taxes, fees, etc both from your purchase and the sale to the new owner? Take all of that into account as well. I think 5k over MSRP is an extremely reasonable friend price. 10k as a friend of a friend price.
