We are getting a lot of rat damage on vehicles this winter. One customer was hit with a low cost repair to an air line. but, he wasn't proactive about setting up traps after that. Now he is in with a $7,000 harness job.

Hate to see this happen. He is a good guy :(.

Don't waste your money on Grandpa Gus bags. Caught a mouse in a trap right underneath one of the bags.

Happened to my Subaru Forester a few years ago - squirrels in the driveway. Ate the wiring harness and the battery. Thousands in repair costs but covered by insurance. The Subaru dealer said the wires are soy based so they taste good to the squirrels.

They apparently like to drink motor oil too, as I have had to clean up a few bottles in my store they chewed open.

If you don't have any animals in the garage ever, pour you some antifreeze out in a dish. That will take care of them.

I second the idea of traps with pb. Works like a charm quickly, every time.

My service advisor told me to quickly call my insurance agent. I called him, he said that "rodent" damage wasn't covered.
Need to talk to somebody else, rodent damage should be covered under the comprehensive coverage. A quick search reveals
" One type of damage you can claim on your comprehensive insurance coverage plan is animal damage. This includes hitting an animal, damage to your exterior or interior, broken windows, and destruction of your wiring. "

We also had some rodent damage on our fusion, but the cost to fix it was less than our deductible

Really sucks to have that happen. Hopefully you can get rid of them without much problems.

I also had a rodent intrusion on my Bronco, but slightly different.

I did the first oil change on my Bronco last Saturday and found this when I removed the skid plate...

Buddy of mine just had his brand new Mazda get eaten up by a rat, thousands in damage to the main harness, insurance covered it.

Definitely call your insurance company directly. To my knowledge, the Texas standard insurance form for physical damage (collision and comprehensive) does not specifically exclude damage caused by rodents or vermin. The typical comprehensive property damage clause in Texas is broad in that it lists some types of covered situations but also says it's not limited by that list and thus, covers other unlisted situations (unless excluded). My guess is your agent is thinking about some homeowner property policies not covering damage to the home caused by rodents.

auto wiring is typically coated with a soy-based covering. It actually IS rat food.
