The boyfriend and I drive cross country every year or two. The last trip we took we left New York, set no GPS and came home 24 days later. Drove all over the entire country from the desolate roads of Texas, Nevada, Utah and Arizona to the populated roads in Cali, Dallas and everything in between. We did a little over 10,000 miles on that trip. I cannot wait to take our next month long cross country adventure in the Bronco.
The wife and I used to do the same thing before the kids ruined it for us. We would head West.. that was it.. see where it took us.
It feels invigorating to not have a destination and be in something capable enough to conquer damn near any road, trail, or obstacle you find. Fortunately we don't have any kids to worry about but we do have cats who hate us after we disappear and have someone else taking care of them while we're gone.
Cats are jerks by the way. They hold grudges when you do stuff like that.
And then act like they don't know you when you get back but when night rolls around they climb right up on your face and lay on it in an absolute attempt to suffocate you.

and we waited until they all grew up so we can do it again, now they want to go with us.
We don't deserve dogs...
That sounds like quite an adventure. I had never thought of doing something like that! I feel like I have to have something planned etc, but that would probably be good for me to try at some point. Maybe once the kids are grown. We have little ones now (9 & 4) so thats not so ideal at this time. I do intend to go on a road trip this Spring/Summer back to NH to visit family and take the kiddos on an adventure.
