While I am not immune from the simple joy of stirring up the shit pot (and leaving before I have to lick the spoon), I think he is serious. A friend of mine had a 4x2 4Runner for nearly 20 years. The thing was indestructible, carried what she needed, and got around really well in the conditions she encountered. Was a great station wagon with ground clearance.

Some folks want a cheaper Bronco (pseudo-convertible) look who have zero need for 4wd, although I don't see it getting any cheaper than a base even if a 4x2. Having said that; the Bronco is too specialized, too many compromises for a road vehicle if you don't need AWD or 4WD. It would be difficult to think of a business case for Ford to make one. Sorry OP, just not in the cards for you.

Price point, rental companies and fleet purchases for corporations. It would sell. You take out the front axel, transfer case etc. It gets a couple of K cheaper and lighter. And the OP is correct. You would be amazed where you can take a 2wd rig with decent tires. Places many people will not take there 4x4.

I don't think a 2wd Bronco makes any sense in any situation. Like you said, it is too specialized.

While I understand "to each their own" and that everyone has their reasons for wanting what they want, personally I don't subscribe to the "buy something solely for looks" thought process. If you're worried about MPG, don't buy a Bronco. Even a neutered 2wd Bronco would get crappy MPG. Go buy a Maverick if that's what you want.

Not to mention the fact that there has never been a Bronco with 2wd (the Bronco II is an abomination and doesn't count).

I'm willing to guess 90% of all vehicles are bought for looks. I might be underestimating. But take the wrangler as a case study: tons of them never see anything more challenging than snow.

That being said... ford barely wants to build 2doors, you think they want to build a 2wd? This is a company that gave up on sedans because they weren't profitable enough. Highly doubt they would ever dedicate resources to making the Bronco cheaper for an incredibly small market segment.

I agree, a very high percentage of Jeeps and Broncos are more than likely bought primarily for looks. I would also say that a very high percentage of Broncos and Jeeps really don't need 4wd because it NEVER gets used. I don't like it, but at least those Jeeps and Broncos have a chance to live second lives with someone else who will let them run free...

My friend keeps giving me a hard time, "you're not gonna take that $63k vehicle out and off-road it". My response is why the hell would I buy a vehicle with front and rear lockers and 4.70 gears and NOT off-road it? He'll find out Saturday, my Bronco came in Monday and I WILL be at the rock park on the first day I can be... It's gonna be fun, he hasn't ever been out there so IMA make sure he gets the full effect. I guarantee he says "no way it can do that" right before I sent it.

2wd for an off road rig??? lol. 2wd would allow for more suspension travel.

2wd in action.

How much do you want to bet that if Ford made the base 2-WD and then made the customer go up a trim or 2 to get 4-WD at a significant higher price, bronco6g would lose it. You would complain why ford cheap out and did not give the base 4-WD
