Hi All,
Just received the new Packhorse Locker from Wicked Relics Off-Road and wanted to post up a review.
FYI….No relation to WRO and I paid full price for my unit.
First let me say what a great experience it was to work with Chris to custom design exactly what I was looking for in a draw/locker that I have not yet seen anywhere else on the market. Chris is a pleasure to work with, provided progress emails as well as photos of the project throughout the way. Nice to deal with a vendor that truly cares about what you want as well as his own workmanship. I can’t recommend Wicked Relics Off-Road enough.
To the Packhorse locker. I initially had a DIY wooden drawer system in my Bronco but felt it was a bit too high (almost 11” high) and it was cutting into my cargo area space. I wanted something lower and more streamlined so I could still utilize a good deal of my cargo space. My wish list was a slide out drawer with removable dividers as well as a top tray that allowed me to still stack things in the cargo area over the drawer. While discussing this with Chris, we decided on a lift up tray that would allow me to lift the tray to access the drawer contents without having to slide the tray out and still being able to utilize the top cargo area.
The drawer is about 5” deep and the whole unit is about 7” tall (saving me about 4” off the old DIY). The drawer slides all the way out to still allow access to the factory storage compartments without having to remove the drawer or the back rail. A big “pro” in my book. The top tray is supported by two gas struts that hold the tray up in an almost vertical position allowing full access to the contents in the drawer without having to slide the drawer out. I like this as there are times I want something from the drawer but don’t have room to fully open the tailgate to slide the drawer out. The drawer has three removable dividers that let me customize the drawer layout depending on what I want to carry in them.
This thing is built like a tank ! It has security bolts connecting the top tray to the frame of the unit that requires a special tool to install the bolts. Both the top tray and the drawer have independent locks on them that I can lock both for rock solid security. I would have no concerns locking a firearm in the drawer, or better yet, in the factory storage compartment without worrying about a smash and grab.
WRO offers full customization if you wanted to do a top slide out tray, or dual trays. Loving this setup !
