VHF and GMRS radios install / mounting?

Yes, Even though my Kenwood TM-V71a is modded to allow full band transmit, I still went through with a dual radio install on my Bronco. The separate GMRS radio is easier to get with the program when arriving to a group that is just using basic GMRS radios as the tones will be all numbered the same and gives me the option to run APRS and monitor a HAM repeater concurrently with participating on the GMRS channel (3 frequencies). It also means I transmit l transmit less on my discontinued Ham radio (make it last longer) and makes everything 100% legal to a T. I just finished the critical portions today and don't have pics of everything up yet but I will add more soon. There is more of the story in my build log.

I will be installing a DV8 overhead console in the next few weeks, along with a 2M/440 dualbander, little CB, a 4G hotspot, a OpenSpot hotspot, a USB hub and a Meshtastic node. "A journey of discovery" is forthcoming, and will take pictures.

Too cold right now! I will be sure to chronicle the whole thing for the forum. Meshtastic is going over big here and is being deployed anywhere where one can get some height in and around the forest.

Doesn’t look like the Yaesu 400 or 500 radios are supported by Chirp programming software. How’s the Yaesu software native to the radio? Fairly easy?

The free software from Yaesu is very user friendly. It lets you program frequencies with a spreadsheet type interface.

Curious if anyone has installed 2 radios in their vehicle, one for vhf and one for gmrs. If so, would love to see where you mounted each of them.

Late to the thread. Both up top on a JCR molle panel. Midland MXT 500 and a PCR Race Radios Kenwood for Baja.

I'm late as usual to this party. I just got a Motorola XTL5000 in the UHF GMRS range. Anyone have experience with this? I've used it in my cop days but not on installation and programming. I do have the motorola programing software.
