I didn't want to cover up my reverse camera and Baja Designs reverse lights with a trash bag. I've been thinking of how I could mount it on the side of the tire. After a few iterations this is my current setup. I had 2 brand new LA Police Gear Duty Belts laying around. https://lapolicegear.com/la-police-gear-duty-belt.htm and they fit perfect!

I wanted a trash bag that wasn't too wide as it's being mounted on the side vs the back of the tire. I found this one on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08B4B39Y4?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

I'll keep the straps on the tires all the time. Add the trash bag when going camping. Once I get to camp and get setup I hang my Adventure Tool Company hanging kitchen on the other side. Use my fold down table and have a pretty minimalist setup.

I'm going on a 5 day overland trip next week so will be a good test for it.

Check out my build thread to see lots of other upgrades for camping / overlanding I've done to my rig. https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/meet-moon.41320/

Thanks for this post! I was actually considering getting a side-hanging trash bag like the one you've got on the left, so it's great that you posted this so I could see how you had it done.

I went on a 5 day overland camp and had a 5lb propane tank in the bag and it worked great. Also used it for trash on the last night.

How do you like that camp kitchen?

I presume you put it in the truck while underway.

We have a small chuck box with stove etc, but the canvas camp kitchen is intriguing.

I absolutely love it! It's a game charger for sure. Its really good quality. Zippers are nice and zip really smooth. Can tell its high end gear just by the feel of it all.

I'm kinda minimalist in my setups. Learned lots from backpacking. I guess my style is backpacking meets overlanding. But it's so nice having everything needed for a basic setup of 4 and some cleaning stuff all in one place. Works great off the tire or I've also hung it from a popup canopy.

My buddy commented a few times how much he likes it and was thinking of getting one. I got him one for Christmas and he loves it.

Yes I only hang it at camp. I keep the trash backpack on while driving. I had a 5lb propane tank in it too and worked great on my 5 day overland. Didn't move at all.

Is there a more subtle strap you think could work?

Solid play @SwampCactus! What size belts do you think I'd need for 35" tires based on your install?

I'd grab the belt that I linked. Literally fits perfect and it's cheap.

I had 3 gallons of gas in the backpack for a trip and they held up perfectly.

Thanks for posting this solution, I'm considering running the same setup though the link to LA police belt stopped working (I found this one: https://lapolicegear.com/la-police-gear-duty-belt.html ). My question is on the bag on the right of the tire, do you find it collides with the tail-light when full with a trash bag?

Thanks for posting this info, very helpful!

Glad it helps!

I've run it on both sides without any issues. I usually keep it on the left side as now I have a propane tank mount on the right. But it should fit on the right side even fairly full.
