Traxxas scale crawlers are freaking cool. I have a pair of their 1/18th and have a lot of fun using them with my 7 year old.

I plan on moving him up to a 1/10th scale this year and getting a couple of those also. Definitely a touch pricey, but worth it. They are not toys but full pre-built hobbyist RC cars with all sorts of interchangeable parts and ways to fix anything that ever fails on it.

Well, you can get unpainted bodies, and I believe that you can also find snorkels.

They even sell suspension lifts for it.
