Storing Butane

So was thinking about a general travel box, with some snacks, hot chocolate, etc. I was going to include my MSR Pocket Rocket and butane canister. In my youth I never thought much of it, but as I get older, and possibly wiser, I started to consider maybe I should be storing them smarter if I leave them in the rig all the time.

What are folks doing with them now?

• Leave them inside
• Only throw in when knowing you want it (easy to forget or wish you had on ad hoc trip)
• Store outside cabin

Thoughts on this. Been reading quite a bit, so the safest is outside the cabin, but then where?
