Trying to decide between the headliner and sun shade with the 2" material or something similar on top. Sun Shade is $200 and you can use it during the summer. Thoughts?

Other forum members have used the bimini sun shade. It would reduce noise and heat/cold less but give you the open top experience that the solid headliner would not. I thought about a bimini but other forum members had high praise for the DirtyDog4x4 (it does have a slight odor). It's up to you. A sun shade might be a good compromise.

I put the Dirty Dog in for winter insulation (works great) and I did notice how much quieter just the DD headliner made the cabin. It must be a notch up with the acoustic mats as well. Great tip, thanks!

For summer I try to be top off as much as possible so the liner comes out and I enjoy the noise.

I have a ‘21 and after 2 years still LOVE having the soft top. In FL from Nov-May it’s open all the time. I have Rough Country bikini so we might get one more month before the summer sun broils us. In the heat of the summer months we never open it.

For long road trips I opted for a custom cut 78” X 51” X 3.5” charcoal egg crate foam from foambymail.com ($105 cut and shipped, $80 if I cut it myself). It’s held in place sandwiched between the RC bikini and the soft top. It is a night and day difference on the highway. At 75 MPH using a decibel app on my phone it measured 69db installed. Without it I’m at 78-80db. My wife and I just did an 1100 mile trip and we both noted how much difference it makes. We can converse normally at highway speeds. Without it, fuggettaboutit!

Which has the slight odor? Sun shade or headliner?

Headliner has slight odor. Hope it fades over time.

The odor does fade. The Arizona sun helped bake it out after a few day but it was strong at first.
