Reviewers claim the two drawbacks of the Bronco are fuel economy and cabin noise. I found a way to significantly reduce interior noise with a softtop. I bought a DirtyDog4x4 headliner ($269.95) and 2 inch thick cotton batting (noise reduction Factor of 1.05) from ATS Acoustics. (three 48x24 pads for $89.56 del.) The headliner helped in that in one direction it reduced the decibels by 3 db and then only by .9 db in the opposite direction (ave. of 1.85 db). Outside wind direction affects the noise level. After adding the cotton batting, the noise reduction was dramatic with noise levels of around 63-64 at 70 mph and 65.5 -66.3 at 75 mph. I have not had a chance to measure a hardtop but I doubt it would be that quiet. I was forced into a softtop by the Ford price modification incentive program and now I doubt I will buy the AFC hard top for almost $7K although I think hard tops look better.
