After some experimenting I have what is turning out to be an incredibly inexpensive wall mount that is very secure.

  • the Front and back doors are about 42" wide and I think 38' tall
  • I took an old piece of 11" particle board shelving and attached to the wall with 10" heavy duty L brackets ($7.99 at Ace Hardware)
  • I placed a door, with the interior top edge leaning against the wall and it was quite secure with the bottom, outer part of door about away from the wall at 9.5"

Upper shelf
  1. cut a 2x10x8 down to about 88" to have some wiggle room - this will be the 9.5" shelf
  2. cut a 2x4x8 to 88" and attach at along the front of the 2x10 to make a 1-1/2 "lip, which will be at 9.5" inches (2x4 is perpendicular to 2x10)
  3. Secure 4, 10" heavy duty L brackets to the wall fpr the 2x10 will lay across the bracket, secure with '1-1/4" screws I have the wall side of the L running down the wall, so it looks like an L from the side not running up to the shelf
  4. wood will not scratch metal, but I am using some inexpensive old vinyl floor covering to cover the wood and run up the wall
Lower Shelf - same procedure, however close to the floor you want

you can put the front doors on same shelf or one on bottom and one on top, same side. super simple, about $75

Yes, happy to send a picture, but I only have the test setup now and I actually just pivoted the design at Home Depot.

A 2x10x8 is really heavy, using a 2x4 as the lip for the door to lean against is also heavy and overkill. The brackets can hold 100lbs a piece it is overall way to much wood. Doors are 50lbs.

New Design

I ripped a 4x8 sheet of 3/4" plain ole plywood at 10" x 8'. I'll cut down to 88" and to put a bracket every 22" and glue and screw to the plywood "shelf". One end of the bracket is under the shelf, the other is above it so it does not scratch the door below. Then rip a 3'' piece of plywood and glue and screw that to the front edge of the shelf as the lip. HD has a roll of diamond pattern rubber for about $20 that I will glue to all wood surfaces that touch the door. Friction will hold the door, the lip is a backup.

Probably finish this week, likely Thursday. Only doing the upper shelf. Not sure if I want the bottom shelf floating on the wall or on the floor just attached to the wall so it doesn't slide around. I will likely run two 2x2 pressure treated strips from left to right to lift it off the floor and use smaller brackets to attach to the wall.

about 3/4 done.

3/4 plywood shelf is 8-1/2” x 88” with 3” lip. Probably will do some kind of carpeting to cover all wood.

#14 shelf anchors are through plywood into cinder block

probably will put rear doors on top shelf instead.

Also. I took a 1x5 and spaced out buckles with some webbing to hold windows. Works pretty well.
