I’ve heard varying experiences with the MTRs. In your experience, were they at least OK on the street? Would you purchase them again, or suggest them to others?
I'm on my second set. Love them and had no issues, but you have to make sure you get the tire pressure correct. Many people over inflate them and they will ride like rocks and you will only wear the tread in the center. I had to argue with Discount Tire for 15 minutes on my first set because they wanted to set the pressure at 35 PSI because it's what the sticker said on the door sill. I ended up letting them and then aired down to a more reasonable pressure right in front of them.

35 PSI also happens to be the max pressure the tires are rated for. I ended up airing down to around 21-25 PSI (can't remember) and the tread sits flat and they handle great. I use them all four seasons here in Michigan too. Size 35x12.50r15.

Wow good feedback, sounds like the air pressure may be why some people don’t have great experiences with them. I’d really like to replace the 315/70R17 with a 275/80R17 and the MTR is the only tread available in that size. The 275/80r17 specs out at 34.3” tall IIRC.

Thanks!

Why would you want to go smaller? Your fuel economy will go down and the truck will look ridiculous with such small tires. Assuming your starting with the Sas package.

Those tires aren’t much smaller in height, but they are in width. He’s probably just trying to shed some of the extra weight or likes the look better.

Interesting, my tire math in my head was severely off, for whatever reason I thought that was significantly smaller.

It’s goofy because in metric, the first measurement is width and then sidewall height based off of that width (70-80% in this case). Normally, we see full tire diameter and then width. Took me a long time to get used to it.

That’s why it’s so confusing when people say “I have 315’s.” They could be 37’s, 33’s, or something much smaller on a track car. Just means they are 315mm wide, which is about 12.50”.

This all seems like confirmation bias, just like pretty much all the arguments/discussions surrounding the Bronco.

People decide what they want, based mostly on emotion, then support that "want" based on reasoning.
