I'm interested in a Skyrider but also want a good roofrack at the same time. I know some manufacturers (Valkyrie, BA Tents, and others) offer roof racks where the front half can come off leaving the back half attached to the clamshell. I'm hoping that this would be a good compromise where I daily with only the back half on for Skyrider functionality but then have the option to attach the front half too when needed. Does anyone have both a Skyrider and one of these modular racks, and could send some photos and a write-up of how well it's working? @Bestop_Team do you have any recommendations?

The other option here is for one of these fine companies to team up with Bestop to produce a modular rack to work well with the Skyrider. If that were the case, what would you like to see as the functionality of said rack? Poll embedded - select all the options you'd want and ask to add any you'd like to see that aren't on there already.

Isn’t @RAKET the only truly removable rack? They’re currently finalizing their design.

@Lakelife36 unfortunately I don't have any recommendations, we haven't tested our Skyrider with a rack system. I will however, ask our Engineers if possible testing is an option and get back to you!

The trouble I see here is that your skyrider will be bouncing/vibrating against the rear portion of the rack which could cause you some wear-related problems.

I know Gobi makes that exoskeleton rack for Jeeps that tilts all the way back (even under load) so you can put the top down but there’s no evidence of that coming [that I’ve seen]

You might get away with something like that if it doesn’t pinch the skyrider. Also, the Bestop TrekTop likely wouldn’t work with that due to space constraints

I sent an email about this same issue over the weekend. Most of these half rack for 4 door are around 4 inches high and just slightly extend over the back clam. But with Skyrider molding I don't see why this would hurt the usefulness of the top being able to open and sit on top. The only other issue to unpack would be sound if it is not as flush with rear???

@BRKOBILLY2 Great feedback and insight, I personally agree however until we've done a test fit, I can't guarantee it would work and still allow the Skyrider to function as it should.

Thank you. I understand that you can't say it would work without testing. The other factor is that a soft top sitting on top is going to move around at whatever speed, overtime even smooth edges of metal could cause tear? So this thread is new, but I am sure many drivers interested in the Skyrider may even have or are considering rack, could it be viable to have a strap to hold outside corners to the rack? Please test and upcharge me for a tie down and CYA saying still can tear.🤣

I know someone who can help and be willing to test for you. We’ve reached out with no response to test fit the Skyrider along with our roof rack system. Let’s talk, I believe we have a solution.

Somebody just needs to make a standalone front crossbar that mounts to the windshield spots and possibly ditch light locations. That would allow everyone with soft tops to use a simple hitch rack like the Yakima Longarm. Can’t believe this solution still doesn’t exist. Everyone wants to make heavy bro-fab 9000 rack monstrosities instead I guess lol

Have you seen those mounting locations? They’ll snap in minutes if not seconds.

That’s why I said you’d probably need to integrate the ditch mounts in the design too. Basically something that attaches at the bottom to those and then the windshield mounts up top. If the trail sights can support 100+ lbs I have faith it can be done lol
