Finally received my 22 Black Diamond on December 30th after 27 months.
My only complaint so far is a ding/ping noise that almost sounds like you take a hammer tapping on a hollow pipe.
I'm guessing its probably the knobby tires throwing rocks up on the plates, plus I did get tube running boards.
Anyone else experience this????

I stopped by the local Ford shop to see if this had been an issue - and I got the standard "no" - although the advisor did say he had the same issue on his F-150 with metal tube running boards.
Thanks
RW

I would cringe every time I heard that when mine was new, then check for chipped paint when I got out. Mud flaps and the running boards have helped a lot.

Yes, it's rocks flinging off the tires and hitting the underside of the running boards. It's actually a good thing because the running boards are helping protect the rocks from hitting the doors and chipping the paint.

I just ordered a set of RokBlokz - looks like they will last and pretty simple to install to some of the others I looked at.

THANKS

I have the tube style side steps and I do hear the dinging. Thankful it is not tearing up my doors. I have mudflaps to install but so dang cold yet here in MN.

Huge drawback without mudflaps in winter is that the snow and ice pile up along the whole length of the step top and bottom, especially at the front.

I know what that looks like with the small amount of snow we get in the Dallas area - can't imagine Minnesota :)

Mud flaps are not enough. My BD SAS had chips on the doors and rocker after I put long mud flaps on the fronts. I added step bars (go rhino d6) and those have kept the rocks off the body.
