Ripped Soft Top

Was an idiot and drove into my garage with the top open. Got this nice little tear. Concerned sewing it won't hold. Any suggestions aside from duct tape? The good news is I absolutely destroyed my garage door. Hoping not to have to replace my top too. Thanks.

you can try that thick upholstery thread. If it's not near a spot that will bend and crease up you could top it off with some waterproof gorilla glue after you sew it

This is a good idea. I know fabrics can be repaired like jackets and tents, etc so surely this can be too. Might leave a scar, but I bet a professional can make it water tight.

At least there are options for a soft top replacement. Hard tops are not easy to come by.

I put a good tear in the top on my old Land Cruiser. I took it down to a marina where they had a guy that made sails. He did a good job mending it and looked pretty nice actually. ended up being the last part of the top that didn’t leak.

Yah I would agree with a sailmaker. They use thread that doesn’t detiorate in sun. PTFE I think.

Thanks for the advice. I found an auto upholster that specializes in convertibles. I have an appointment next week to see if they can help. I am good with a scar. It will be a good reminder of my idiocy. Good news is it is a soft top and I can always put a new one on if I want to.

This is B6G..... You're supposed to blame Ford for not giving you the proper reminder to close your top before entering the garage. Also, poor QC on the fabric yada, yada, yada.

You are right. How dare I take responsibility for my stupidity? Damn you Ford and your inability to alert me to having my top up as I enter my garage (something I have done thousands of times). I might sell my Bronco right now because of it - but at a deep discount because of this flaw. Bikeric - thank you for correcting me.

I’m a helper.
I almost forgot: “The Bronco was designed to be an Off-Road vehicle. If it can’t even handle the occasional garage door…. My dealer won’t even cover this under warranty, and I’m only at 6,000 miles!!”

The scar will make for an excellent story about how you staved off a bear attack in your Bronco with only Bronco bolts and your wits.
