As the summer weather heats up, keeping a fridge or cooler in the back is pretty much essential for trail trips. To maximize vertical space, running a cargo shelf is a very common setup for many of us.

However, this multi-tier storage layout often comes with a common real-world dilemma:

After a long day on the trail under the sun, you pull over to grab an ice-cold drink from the fridge. You go to open the lid, only for it to smack directly into the bottom of the cargo shelf.

Because of the height restrictions between the two layers, the cooler lid can only open at a tight angle. Trying to reach inside to fish out items from the back becomes a tight squeeze, especially when the fridge is fully packed. It’s a simple physical space limitation that many multi-layer setups face.

If you’ve run into this tight clearance issue with your summer cargo setup, how are you managing it? Drop a comment below.

The good news is you don’t have to give up the vertical storage of a cargo shelf just to get full access to your cooler.

Running the TrailDeck slide out tailgate drawer offers a very practical fix. Without changing your upper shelving setup, you just slide out the deck, open the cooler or refrigerator, and you're done. It brings the fridge completely out from under the shelf, letting you open the lid all the way with zero clearance issues.

Now, let’s hear from you!
