Rear Shock leaking @ just under 42k miles

Hey @Ford Motor Company , I am curious, are the Sasquatch shocks supposed to only last 41k miles? I'm out of warranty and I have fluid leaking all over the parking lot. Curious as to what the deal is? More Ford Quality at it's finest?

Those are Bilsteins, no? Tough to get at Ford here especially since it is a wear component that IS out of warranty.

That's been an issue for 2 years now. I've even seen a few where the reservoir fell off as well.

One of my rear sas shocks started leaking at 10k miles. Terrible quality.

Yeah it's a wear component, I get that. At the same time, this is my daily, so it's seen about 99% of on road travel. For a shock to give out in less than 2 years at 41k miles is pretty damn pathetic. Especially for something that's billed as basically a Baja killer by Ford. Can't handle high speed desert running.... just not pavement I guess

That's why I put them in my top post. Can't wait to see what thoughts they have about this one. Hell I had 1 dealership put me on hold for 20 minutes before disconnecting. And I'm waiting on a call back from other dealership with a quote.


Edit: Now I'm wondering if it's even repairable or a full replacement.

I have 4 in great condition for $200 + shipping if anyone wants them. Took them off at 8k.

Are you sure it’s the shock? I had an oil leak in the left rear wheel area. I thought it was a shock at first. Oil sprayed inside the wheel, tire and fender flare and dripping on the driveway. Turned out to be a failed axel seal and the axel lube was leaking out. Whole rear axel needed replacing. Not to question your mechanical knowledge, just thought I’d share.

Turned out to be a failed axel seal and the axel lube was leaking out. Whole rear axel needed replacing. Not to question your mechanical knowledge, just thought I’d share.

I crawled underneath and had oil dripping down the shock. Pretty sure the axle wasn't leaking where I was looking. But now that you mentioned this, I will definitely double check. I'd rather be replacing a shock than a whole axle. Thanks for the heads up.

Well now that you scared me, I ran outside to take a quick look. From what I'm seeing, sure looks like it's coming from the shock.

Sorry to scare you. I didn’t have oil running down the top of the shock like yours shows.

Better safe than sorry, though. I thought it was the shock until the Ford dealer diagnosed the actual problem. It may not hurt to have a pro look at it before replacing the shocks.

I had one blow out on the front and had it replaced under warranty a couple of months ago. I only have about 20K miles though, so...

My truck that I still drive to work most days is a '91 Ranger with 330k+ miles . It's still running the original shocks and I never even slow down for the speed bumps in the parking lot ,lol.
