I’ve replaced my rear bumper and need to relocate my license plate. I’m using a mount that attaches to the OEM tire carrier. I need to pull the existing wiring for the license plate light to the tire carrier, and I want to hide it.

My relocation mount instructions have me pulling the wiring harness across the underside of my bumper to the side where the tailgate swing hinge is, then over the tailgate seal and up to the backup light/camera harness and into the tailgate. I do not want to do this and want to hide the harness. I’m looking for suggestions on the best way to do this.

One path I’m looking at is to go under the bumper, through the drain hole in the tire tool compartment under the cargo area. From there, I can pull it under the trim and exit along the existing brake light & backup camera wiring harness.

How have others done this?

Diode dynamics has some instructions for their rear chase light assembly that shows how to go through the drain plug.

DV8 has a plate relocation that shows how to go from the tailgate to the factory plate plugs too.

I have the DV8 plate relocation and the basics of it are.. go from the trail gate down the trim beside the door (on the actual body).. pull the trim up that goes along the edge of the interior tailgate and just drop the wire underneath the weather strip.

You can see if if you look real hard for it and then you quickly don't care about it because its out of the way. It remains waterproof as door closed its very sealed. Been through some real shit off road and it continues to work too lol.
