Question about vinyl seats

I’m not sure if this has been brought up before. But I finally got my Bronco and noticed that there is fabric on the side of the seats. Only on the sides that face inward, which made me think it was intentional. Does anyone know if this is normal and if so what it is intended for?

Believe there was a thread some time ago about this. Think the consensus was that it would help with squeaking when rubbing against the console.
