Just look at your m3u file in something like notepad and make sure the song file references look like this, it's how I did mine and it works perfect -

#EXTM3U
#MyPlaylist.m3u8
Hudson Moore\Bronco\01 - Bronco.mp3

I fixed mine. The problem was indeed escape characters. I used VLC to generate the playlist, and it added %20 to the playlist to indicate a space between words. Like the song "Paint it Black" would be listed as "Paint%20it%20Black" I used find and replace in notepad to replace '%20' with ' ' and tried again. Playlist works now. Format is as follows:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:233,Volturian - Haunting Symphony
/Volturian/Crimson/03 - Haunting Symphony.mp3
#EXTINF:229,Xandria - In Love with the Darkness
/Xandria/India/03 - In Love with the Darkness.mp3
#EXTINF:265,Narwhal Tusk - New Dawn, New Day
/Narwhal Tusk/In Despair/06 - New Dawn, New Day.mp3
#EXTINF:214,Moonlight Haze - It's Insane
/Moonlight Haze/Animus/02 - It's Insane.mp3
#EXTINF:199,Delain - We are the Others
/Delain/We are the Others/03 - We are the Others.mp3

I had the same problem with mine when I got it and the issue for me is that I had the drive named with a space in it. I replaced the space with an underscore and it's been working ever since with no issues.

I have several USBs with music that work. I ripped my CDs to mp3s and then copied them to the USB, and they play fine.

I do use iTunes/Carplay with majority of library downloaded on phone. I just wanted to play around with USB drive. And sometimes I get tired of the constant need to reboot radio if I make frequent stops on trip. Wanted to give this a try.
I've been using the USB stick since I played with it last week, and the results are promising. I made a trip up to MD this weekend ~2 hours or so away give or take depending on traffic. I didn't have to reboot the infotainment system and I did make a few stops both up and back. Additionally, the cut-outs I get where my audio pauses for a second or two randomly when streaming from my phone seemed to not happen at all either.

As a side note, I found that using the skip and repeat buttons were more responsive than when streaming from my phone. On the phone it takes a second or two to actually perform the command the button sends, but with the USB stick it's instantaneous.

I had all my old cds ripped to mp3 and loaded on my usb, but given the size availability, I'd rather re-rip them and go full uncompressed - just not sure the system will play .cda/pcm files. I'll have to figure out the least compressed alternative. But yes other than that I have been able to play all my itunes library and mp3s stored on a USB stick.

You can RIP CDs uncompressed to flac or WAV files, both of which play fine from a USB stick in my Bronco.
