My son recently placed a deposit (1k) on a 2023 Big Bend. I've never ordered a new vehicle myself so I'm hoping for some insight from the collective expertise here on this forum to help him out. He left the dealership with a deposit receipt. Nothing else, other than the expectation that he would likely have his new Bronco in 6 months to a year. Should there be anything else he maybe should have gotten, such as some type of written agreement? Also, what will be the first thing he will receive from the dealership to let him know that the vehicle is getting ready to be built? My wife and I have a 2022 Bronco Sport but we bought it when it was in transport to the dealership so we don't have any ordering experience. Thanks for any help!

The order banks for new retail orders is currently closed... so... the isn't any way for the dealer to submit a new order for him.

What probably happened is one of the following:
  • The dealer has a "wait list" and he placed a $1000 deposit to be on that dealers wait list. They may have created a draft order for him and once order banks do open (currently rumored to be Feb 2023) the dealer will actually submit his order into Ford.
  • The dealer submitted a stock order with his desired configuration. There is nothing wrong with that other than the order will not be in his name, and he will not be eligible for any price protection should Ford raise the prices half way through the model year.
  • Someone else walked away from their retail order (carried over from 2022MY), and they are just giving him their order that they walked away from.
---

What he should have done is come out with two sheets of paper:
  • A WBDO summary sheet that lists his desired configuration and the MSRP of the vehicle and all of the components. This ensures the order was submitted properly into Ford's ordering system by the dealer.
  • A price agreement or buyer's order signed by both your son and the dealer's sales manager confirming the final price selling price and the fact he made a $1000 deposit for the vehicle. This essentially just ensures that the dealer doesn't change the price on him between now and when the vehicle gets delivered, and serves as a receipt that he actually did place a deposit for the order.

Thank you. Very helpful. I will share this info with him and encourage him to make a trip back to the dealership to see if he can get these documents. Thanks again. Much appreciated.
