Like to put 286/70/17 KO2 tires on my stock Outer Banks. Not sure of what off set or back space I need in a 17” wheel to clear everything. I don’t want the tire to hang out pass the fender flairs. The stock wheels are 7-1/2” with +55, I would like to do 8-1/2”or 9” , just don’t know what offset will clear. Input appreciated

Stay between +55 and +30 and you should be fine.
Here's 285/70-17 on an 8" wide wheel +55 offset.

+55 offset will work. And if you are doing 285mm-wide tires I'd go with with 8" wide wheels... although 8.5" will probably also work. If you really want to do 9" wide wheels... then you're probably going to have to decrease your offset to +30... and my guess is you'll get a tiny little bit of poke with a +30 offset.

It sounds like you are set on grabbing an new set of rims. But for those people who come across this thread in the future..... if you wanted to stick with your factory rims, that would be a 285/65r18 tire. However, I believe the factory rims are only 7.5" wide, so you may have to bump down to slightly narrower 275/65r18 tire (depending on what tire you pick).
