Do you have any good suggestions for improving the exposed wires?

suggestions would be to do the same thing with the normal trail site lights (whole new trail marker), maybe even include this as an option to your trail site lights

You'll never make it past a security checkpoint with those wires hanging out.

Not to mention the short circuit problem.

I've said it a thousand times, Mabett makes good non-electrical stuff. Beyond that, buyer beware.

Yeah I like the Mabett accessions like molle panels or cup holders etc. I’ve tried to give some of their lights and other electrical items a shot, but something about them keeps me away.
