The way things are starting to go, it won't be long before we're glad to have an engine as big as the 2.7. They're already putting 1.5 three cylinder engines in some models as the base option.
If we're gonna get something that small in the Bronco, it needs to at least be a diesel.

Ford tends to use as small a turbo as they can get away with for their targeted power goals. It's nice for low-mid end but top end is limited. What do the f150s with the 2.7 run? I know the 3.5l with a tune runs 13's. That's pretty damn solid for a full size truck imo.
Fusion 2.7 turbos flow about 42 lb/min combined (@ around 21-22 PSI). F150's flow about 44, but use an IC much larger than the Fusion, so they can get away with running out of their efficiency range on the top end much better than the Fusion. I assume Bronco will have a pretty large IC also, unless
they don't have the space with solid bumpers and winches in the way, combined with a short grill height.

MKZ's flow around 48 combined
Ford GT's are around 84 combined

Your coming off a little hot, this isn’t an engine forum, I’m stating that my experience with the engine is less than exceptional. I’m allowed to have my opinion on it and after dealing with an engine that over 55,000 miles of personal use left a sour taste in my mouth - I have no interest going back to another.
I have driven a lot of trucks, powerful diesels, big displacement gas HD trucks all the way down to small displacement 4 cylinders. I didn’t expect a sports car like engine but I did expect the truck to behave like a truck, and the engine was a let down. From power delivery, to fuel economy, to one of the most important aspects of a truck engine - reliability.
I'd say you calling the 2.7 a dog is coming in a little hot especially for a first post. Of course everyone can have an opinion but opinions don't align with overwhelming majority it will likely be questioned. You clearly stated it had issues and was smoking so even more reason to question why an engine with issues would be measured against one that doesnt. Having owned a 2.7 and operate a small fleet of 2.7, 3.5 and 5.0 F150s I'm very familiar with all of them, performance and MPG.

The 2.7 in something 300 to 500 pounds lighter(or more) is going to be a quick ass little SUV.
