You expected to buy your windstar at cost though. Why. Why is it ok to negotiate down but not up. It’s a hypocritical viewpoint to expect dealers to just do what you want. I don’t agree with it all. And if I was a dealer and I had someone buying at msrp I would take that over him walking for 2500$. It absolutely goes both ways and if I was the salesman I would have told my manger off and walked right out of the store. Bcuz now you’re talking away my living.
Wtf is a windstar?
Inflation is one thing. Building and pricing a bronco only to be jacked for extra cash at delivery is completely different.

It is not really a question of ADM, I can live without a Bronco but can't deal or live with the loss of personal self respect knowing I got taken to the cleaners. I don't like the way Ford changed the rules on it's enthusiast reservation holders and locked people out of any kind or real deal, it is completely inexcusable by any rational mind. When I put in a reservation nearly two years ago and people walk up to the counter and get a build date on my exact same build is just plain wrong. Ford just lost me as a customer.

... Anyways why msrp. If there is a scarcity and that drives prices up well isn’t that just the cost of what you want reflected in the current market. Why is it so offensive to people.
Because it is disrespectful. They are not advertising it as such before you go in and waste your time. No different than going to to a restaurant and ordering the $19.99 crab legs special off the menu board at the front, then waiting... Once the meal gets to the table, the waiter says that they are very popular and market price is $30 because other people want them and will pay extra to not have to wait. Take it or leave it.

You ask around and find the restaurant does the same to everyone who offers crab legs. They don't change the advertised price, just put a little 'suggested price' verbiage next to it, and keep switching it at the end.

It is intended to deceive the final consumer, to get them in for that hard sell. More time share vs grocery store and it places zero value or respect on the person's time. So, disrespectful. That is why people get pissed, at least in my opinion.

Stopped by my dealer today to check on my build date. Holy crap, I’ve moved up a week….now 4/4. Doesn’t mean I won’t be stuck on “the mountain” for months however…..

Anyway, this particular dealership has 3 Broncos for sale. One used with 200 something odd miles on it. All were being offered at around $8,000 over MSRP.

I fully understand the frustration of reserving and then waiting 7 to 24 months only to be confronted with unexpected ADM. It’s WRONG, UNDERHANDED and DECEPTIVE (which is illegal in Texas).

On the other hand, If you walked into THAT dealership today, wanting a Bronco, and were faced with what could be a 8 to 18 month wait to get a delivery, the $8000 ADM with instant delivery might be well worth it.

I’m sure I’ll get your opinions.

By the way, the Badlands Sasquatch, MGV, and wash out floors (which is what I saw today, and what I ordered) is BAD ASS, up front and personal. Can’t wait to get it out to AZ, UT, CO, NM, and Big Bend.
If I bargain for 8000 over MSRP, then I have I have problem with it at all. But if a dealer represents one thing and then screws a customer with an unexpected ADM, then that dealer is a slim ball.

How do you get a guy to buy a lobster, when the guy has no real use for one, and actually would be better off with his hamburger.

If someone wants to walk into a dealer and pay the ADM to get the Bronco on the spot...I am all for it. What kind of price tag does one put on nearly two years off driving and off-roading memories while waiting for your reserved Bronco?

All good replys which I enjoyed reading.

Here’s my deal. I’m 71 years old. Time is becoming very important to me. I’m hoping to have 10 years ahead where I am still capable of going exploring and camping in some very remote areas of of the US. My current 8 to 9 month wait for the vehicle has subtracted at least 2 of those outings (from the remainder of my life ☹). This vehicle is the perfect mechanism for what I want to do. Yeah, its cool and I will enjoy driving it on the concrete streets of Houston, but I really want it to enable me to get “away”.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, that choice was not available at the time I ordered. I did not even place an order until I could sit in one and determine its suitability for my needs.

I'm a fan of capitalism. Supply and demand dictates price. Let the market handle it like it should and it won't get out of balance.

I think that's a deceptive tactic, most especially if a price agreement was already made and signed. I wouldn't be okay with changing anything already agreed and signed. I do think the dealerships should have a bit of leeway on unsigned agreements, however, given the changes in the sales market for vehicles in the last 12-18 months. If you didn't have a signed agreement and the dealership wants to throw in $1K-$3K worth of add-ons so they can make a few bucks, I think that's entirely reasonable.
so if you arrange to buy a car from a guy on a forum or facebook or whatever and show up with your payment and he tells you he put on some sick wheels or other add ons and the price went up, that’s Ok?

There is no defense of dealers that are jacking up prices on reservation holders who had a agreement and placed an order with them, whether it was a signed agreement or not. If someone sat there with me showed me a price on an order sheet, placed the order with that price on it and did t tell me it was subject to change, it is straight up deceptive and shady business practice. There is no other buying experience with this kind of deceptivenes.

Now if it’s dealer stock, they can do what they want. I have a signed and countersigned MSRP order and will be waiting a long time, but my dealer texted me that they had a customer bail on almost exact build and it’s on showroom floor ………for a $15k ADM!! I hope they didn’t steal it from someone who didn’t have price in writing.

Free market supply and demand when it’s already on the floor because someone backed out ie. a new negotiation. But the dealers who take an order, agree to a price and then back out so they can sell for crazy ADM should lose their dealer franchise. If those fools want to sell cars they should get no better than a slimy used car lot and fight for cars at auction.

I think most people are on the same page. If you had a reservation, you should not be charged ADM, especially if the dealer agreed to it or was shady about how much the pricing would be. If you are buying one off the street, then the dealer can ASK for whatever they want.

If I had been faced with $8000 ADM my price would then have equalled my other choices and as such I would be driving one of my other choices at $62,000 instead of my Bucky at $54,000

Even that sounds like a lot for a non-luxury vehicle (but with Lux only to get heated steering wheel or I would have only paid $51K) when a Bronco starts at $38k or so, but the 64 1/2 Mustang started at under $2400 FOB and I would imagine less than 10% went out the door at that price. Not from ADM but from options and accessories either factory or dealer added.

Not that long ago but probably only within the lifetime of 10% of forum members, all Japanese imported cars came in with exactly the same build other than paint color and all options and accessories were dealer installed

To ADM or not to ADM, that is the question.

In early 2020, I bought a truck for $15k off sticker. That is likely to not happen again in my lifetime (I’m in my 40’s now). Now everybody pays sticker price (MSRP) and that’s the new norm. I’ve accepted that reality and I think it’s okay for a dealer to have an ADM for in stock units in their inventory. After all, that dealer owns that car/truck. If I order one however, that’s different and we should pay the MSRP (the new reality). I think that’s how most dealers are working these days.

Here’s my question to everyone here…if you order a truck from Ford or any other manufacturer and it’s going to be sold to you for MSRP, why aren’t you still shopping??
If I order a truck from you or the guy across the street, it’s going to be the same truck. If the vehicle is the same, then only the dealers are different. I’m competing dealers against dealers now. Who has the cheaper document fee (which that fee should go away now that the prices are much higher)? What dealer will give me a free maintenance plan?
Why cry over the prices? You can’t change that but you can still change where you shop. Make the dealers compete. After all, you’re paying a premium.

Town East Ford (Mesquite, TX) gave me 2 years/24k miles of free maintenance when I bought my F150 last August. They won’t do the same for my Bronco order and I could get a cheaper doc fee elsewhere so I didn’t order through them. As of today, I have 3 Bronco orders in with 3 different dealers. I’ll grab the first one that come in since I have negotiated with each of them my terms (free floor mats, free window tint, whatever…just get something!)
